Historical evolution

In 1933, Mr. Su Chu donated all the private Zhenglou primary school's assets (estimated at about 31900 silver dollars) to the province. On this basis, Zhejiang Provincial Department of education founded Wenzhou Normal School.

In 1942, Ruian Normal School of Zhejiang Province was founded.

In 1943, Zhejiang Pingyang normal school was founded.

In 1956, Wenzhou teachers college was founded.

In 1958, Wenzhou Normal College was upgraded to Wenzhou Normal College. In September, Wenzhou Normal College and Wenzhou Normal College merged.

In 1959, Wenzhou Normal School was separated from the normal college and still runs independently.

In 1964, Wenzhou Normal University was abolished and Wenzhou teaching and research correspondence Station was established.

In 1971, on the basis of teaching and research correspondence Station in Wenzhou, Wuqi normal school in Wenzhou was established.

In 1971, Wenzhou Normal School and Wenzhou Wuqi normal school were merged and named Wenzhou Normal College.

In 2001, Ruian normal school, Pingyang normal school and Wenzhou preschool normal school were merged into Wenzhou Normal University.

In 2004, Wenzhou Normal University and Wenzhou University merged to form a New Wenzhou University, which was officially established in 2006.

In 2016, the Ministry of Education approved the City College (Independent College) of Wenzhou University to be established as Wenzhou business school.

On December 27, 2019, Zhejiang Province and Wenzhou City signed an agreement, and Wenzhou University became a "Key University jointly built by provinces and cities".
