Fantian Temple

Fantian temple is located at the south foot of Dalun mountain. It is one of the earliest Buddhist temples in Fujian Province. Together with Gushan Yongquan temple in Fuzhou, Guanghua temple in Putian, Kaiyuan Temple in Quanzhou and Nanshan Temple in Zhangzhou, it is a famous temple along the coast of Fujian. Xiamen and Nanputuo temple are both famous Buddhist temples in Southern Fujian.

Fantian temple, formerly known as Xingjiao temple, was built in 581, the first year of kaihuang reign of Sui Dynasty. It was 300 years earlier than Nanputuo temple in Xiamen, and 100 years earlier than Kaiyuan Temple in Quanzhou. Fantian temple is one of the oldest temples in Bamin. Fantian temple was formed in the Tang Dynasty, with 72 large and small nunneries, which were collectively referred to as "Fantian Temple" in the Song Dynasty. Miaoshi temple in Xiamen and riguangyan temple on Gulangyu Island are all its sub Zen temples. Fantian temple has gone through many vicissitudes, but there are many eminent monks, elegant scholars, and cigarettes.
