Midui Village

At the foot of midui glacier is a Tibetan village called midui, which belongs to Yupu Township, Bomi County, Nyingchi Prefecture, Tibet. Due to the low altitude, warm and rainy, the village is surrounded by thick forest besides fertile farmland. Most of the storehouses built with logs are on the second floor. Half of the second floor is a sun terrace. The wooden poles on the sun terrace are covered with harvested wheat and highland barley. Every family has a yard the size of a basketball court. There are not only tall trees, but also a few flags beside the trees. You will think you have entered a forest park.

Midui glacier is called "world-class glacier wonder" by geographers. It has an ice waterfall with a drop of nearly 800 meters. In addition, it is also a glacier that can "suddenly jump", which is very rare in glaciers all over the world. Of the 46298 glaciers in China, only two can do this kind of "stunt", one is midui glacier. The other is the zelongnong glacier under the "holy mountain" Namjagbarwa peak, which is about 200 km away from it.

According to records, in the late night of July 15, 1988, the midui glacier suddenly leaped, and the end of the broken huge glacier rushed into the ice lake, making the lake water of the same size and volume as the broken glacier gush out, breaking the lake dam. Thousands of cubic meters of lake water mixed with mud and stone flow tumbled down in a few minutes, destroying 18 bridges and 42 kilometers of subgrade on the Sichuan Tibet highway The only "lifeline" in Southeast China was cut off for half a year.
