Baihe reservoir

Baihe reservoir is located in Xionghe village, Wangdian Town, Dangyang city. The dam intercepts the tributary of Baihe River in the upper reaches of the agate River, a primary tributary on the left bank of the Yangtze River. The reservoir is a medium-sized reservoir project, which is mainly used for urban water supply, irrigation, flood control and other comprehensive utilization. It is one of the important counter regulation reservoirs in the Dongfengqu irrigation area of Yichang city.

The reservoir has a total capacity of 19.9 million m3, Xingli capacity of 12.32 million m3, flood control capacity of 7.08 million m3, normal pool level of 170.36 m, design flood level of 172.54 m and check flood level of 173.53 m. It is designed according to 50 year return period flood and checked according to 1000 year return period flood. The reservoir project is composed of main dam, 1 auxiliary dam, 2 auxiliary dam, spillway, water culvert, water main canal and other structures. The dam is a homogeneous earth dam with a maximum height of 24.8m. The rainfall bearing area of the reservoir is 39.91 km2, and the average annual water volume is 39.49 million m3. The average annual rainfall of the reservoir is 901 mm and the average annual evaporation is 1280 mm. The construction of the reservoir project started in October 1959. From January 8, 2009 to November 20, 2011, the Baihe River was comprehensively reinforced, so that the dam can resist the flood control standards of 50 year return period design flood peak flow (604m3 / s) and 1000 year return period check flood peak flow (1129m3 / s), and passed the completion acceptance in January 2013. Baihe reservoir was designated as drinking water source protection zone by Hubei Provincial Department of ecological environment in 2019. The water supply of the reservoir is mainly met by the inter basin water transfer from Huangbai River through Dongfeng main canal. It mainly undertakes the tasks of domestic water supply, agricultural irrigation and water supplement of shanxichong reservoir in yaqueling town of Yiling District, Anfusi town of Zhijiang City and Wangdian town of Dangyang city. The annual water diversion is 22 million m3 and the average water supply is 29 million m3.
