Nantong Confucian Temple

Nantong Confucian temple is located at 14 Renmin Middle Road, Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. Founded in the early Song Dynasty in the fifth year of Taiping's rejuvenation of the country, it has a history of 1030 years. As an important place for worshiping Confucius and exchanging with scholars, the Confucian temple shows the profound foundation of Nantong as a famous historical and cultural city.

The only existing Dacheng Hall of Nantong Confucian temple is of Ming Dynasty structure, with double eaves and nine ridges. It has five rooms wide and three rooms deep. Inside the hall is a beam lifting structure with 36 columns

Form a column grid. The column head has a rolling brake and a pier type column foundation is installed under it. Liang Jian's painting is painted in the Qing Dynasty when it was repaired. In front of the hall, there is a platform with stone railings, which is connected with the main hall. Under the platform, there are three vigorous Ancient Ginkgo biloba. In the east wall of the siheyuan, a new stele corridor of the Confucian temple was built in 1981. There are 20 steles originally placed in the Ming Lun hall. The earliest is the 15th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1382), and the latest is the 4th year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1824). In June 1983, it was announced as a cultural relic protection unit in Nantong city. In history, Nantong Confucian temple has been maintained and expanded for more than 20 times, and the modern one can be traced back to the 1980s. As a result of years of disrepair, the roof of the Dacheng Hall of the Confucian temple is seriously damaged, the size of the rafters out of the eaves is inconsistent, the double eaves are bent and deformed, there are leakage phenomena, the cracks in the wall finishing layer spread alkali, so the maintenance and protection is urgent. In order to better protect this precious historical heritage and restore the majestic momentum of the past, Nantong cultural center carried out a painting protection in 2008, and officially launched the civil engineering maintenance project of the Dacheng Hall of the Confucian temple in March 2010. Based on the principle of repairing the old as before, the maintenance adopts scientific methods to carry out protective maintenance and restore its original historical appearance.
