Datong gate, also known as the south gate, is one of the four city gates (East, South, West and north gates) of jianchangwei in Ming Dynasty. After its completion in 1387, it experienced countless wars, floods, earthquakes and other disasters. Datong building was destroyed and built again, built again and again, and built again and again, and went through many vicissitudes. In 1998, the CPC Xichang Municipal Committee and the Municipal People's government resolutely decided to rebuild Datong building in accordance with the public opinion. After reconstruction, Datong building has maintained the architectural style of Ming Dynasty, restored the brick and stone walls of Ming Dynasty, relocated the units and residents who illegally occupied the walls, and restored the urn city. The reconstructed Datong building covers an area of 2800 square meters and is 23 meters high, becoming a major historical and cultural landscape in Xichang.
