Historical evolution

In 1958, under the personal initiative of Chairman Mao Zedong

On September 10 of the same year, the president personally wrote the name of Xiangtan University and kindly asked "we must run Xiangtan University well". In 1959, the school was closed for some reason

.

In March 1974, Deng Xiaoping, Li Xiannian and other leading comrades of the Central Committee approved the restoration of Xiangtan University, positioning it as a comprehensive university of Arts, science and engineering, and agreed that the State Development Planning Commission would specially allocate construction funds

. On April 5 of the same year, the Hunan provincial Party committee established a "Work Committee for the restoration of Xiangtan University" composed of Li Zhenjun, Secretary of the provincial Party committee.

From 1975 to 1978, more than 3000 people from all over the country sent letters to visit the University and asked to be transferred to the University. The University successively started from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University and Renmin University of China

About 300 young and middle-aged backbone teachers, teaching assistants and management cadres have been transferred to Wuhan University, Sun Yat sen University, Beijing Normal University and other universities. More than 60 teachers and teaching assistants have been supported by universities and other units in the province.

On September 10, 1975, the first opening ceremony of Xiangtan University was held.

In 1977, the Hunan provincial Party committee appointed Li Zhenjun, Secretary of the provincial Party committee, as the first president of Xiangtan University when it was restored.

In 1978, the University was designated as one of the 16 comprehensive national key universities by the State Council.

In 1981, the University became one of the first batch of authorized units for master's degree in China.

In 1997, the University established the first board of directors of universities in Hunan Province, and the Hunan provincial Party committee appointed a member of the Standing Committee of the provincial Party committee and an executive vice governor

Wang Keying is the chairman of Xiangtan University.

In 2005, the Ministry of education and Hunan Provincial People's government signed an agreement to jointly support the construction of Xiangtan University.

In 2010, the University signed an agreement with the Intellectual Property Office of Hunan Province to jointly build the intellectual property College of Xiangtan University.

In 2010, it was shortlisted as a Chinese University in the "20 + 20 cooperation plan of Chinese and African universities" of the Ministry of education.

In 2012, it was selected as one of the first batch of "basic capacity building projects of universities in central and Western China".

In 2012, it became one of the pilot units of informatization in 66 undergraduate colleges and universities in China.

In 2013, the Hunan Provincial People's government and the State Administration of science, technology and industry for national defense signed an agreement to jointly build Xiangtan University.

In 2014, the University signed an agreement with Northwest Institute of nuclear technology to jointly build the school of materials science and engineering of Xiangtan University.

In 2015, Xiangtan University and Peking University signed a memorandum of exchange and cooperation.

In 2015, the University was approved as "national patent collaborative application pilot unit" and became one of the eight pilot universities in China.

In 2016, China Red Tourism Innovation and development research base was established in Xiangtan University, which is the first national Red Tourism key research base.

In May 2017, Hunan University established the first credit risk management college in China.

In July 2017, the University and Peking University signed an agreement to jointly build "Hunan advanced sensor and Information Technology Collaborative Innovation Research Institute".

In December 2017, the University signed an agreement with the Publicity Department of Hunan provincial Party committee to jointly build the school of literature and journalism of Xiangtan University.

In April 2018, Jingdong Group donated 10 million yuan to establish "Jingdong scholarship" and invested 10 billion yuan in Xiangtan to jointly promote the construction of intelligent logistics distribution system and build a cloud computing big data industrial base.

In July 2018, Xiangtan University established Biquan college.

On September 19, 2018, the Ministry of education and the Hunan Provincial Government signed an agreement to jointly build "double first class" universities, supporting the construction of high-level universities and characteristic disciplines in Xiangtan University.

In December 2018, the Collaborative Innovation Center for Mao Zedong Thought Research of Xiangtan University was recognized as one of the first batch of collaborative innovation centers jointly built by 59 provinces and ministries.

In July 2019, Hunan Higher People's court and Xiangtan University signed the comprehensive strategic cooperation framework agreement,

In August, the "procuratorial public interest litigation research base" of the Supreme People's Procuratorate was established in Xiangtan University.

In October 2019, the head office of China Construction Bank signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Xiangtan University.

On February 26, 2020, Xiangtan University was approved to build Hunan National Applied Mathematics center, one of the first batch of 13 National Applied Mathematics centers.
