Bu Gaoli

It was built in 1930. It covers an area of 6940 square meters and a construction area of 10069 square meters. It is a row type old style stone storehouse with brick and wood structure, two floors and red brick exterior walls. There are 79 buildings in total. It is a rare and complete group of buildings in Shanghai.

In 1930, it was invested by French businessmen and designed and constructed by China Jianye real estate company. The gatehouse at the entrance of the lane is marked with Chinese and French characters. The French name (CIT é Bourgogne) comes from Burgundy, France.

Introduction to scenic spots

Bugaoli has a Chinese style archway at the entrance of South Shaanxi Road and West Jianguo Road. The Longkou archway in South Shaanxi road is a three room three story archway, about 8.5 meters high and 6 meters wide. Brick door post, middle arch gate, 2.62 m wide, 3.6 m high, two sides of the door about 2.7 m high, 0.94 m wide, Xieshan style tubular tile cornice top, decorative brackets. There are white walls, black characters, red tiles and gray columns, with Chinese "Bugaoli", French "cite Bourgogne", and "1930". Each house has a small patio and long windows.

Ba Jin, Hu Huaichen, Zhang chenbo, Ping Hailan and other famous people once lived here. In 1989, it was listed as a municipal cultural relics protection unit.

Interior landscape

Bugaoli is located at the junction of Shaanxi South Road and Jianguo West Road in Huangpu District (former Luwan District). It is a typical old style residential complex in Linong. It was built by French merchants in 1930 and once belonged to Shanghai French concession. There are 78 brick and wood two-story Shikumen buildings, forming a complete pattern of Lane neighborhood. The Chinese style archway at Lane entrance is unique. Mr. Ba Jin, a famous writer, once lived here. His former residence is located at 52 Bugaoli. Here he created a dream of the sea and other works.
