St. Nicholas Church in Beijing

Covering an area of nearly 2000 square meters, St. Nicholas Church in Beijing is mainly composed of death hall, bell tower, Chinese and foreign study, priest's residence and widow's home, with more than 80 houses. The death hall is a typical cross shaped Orthodox Church, with five vaulted castles with crosses on the top of the church. After that, another "dedication day church" was built in the Russian consulate in Dongjiaominxiang, known as "Nanguan". After 1956, the North embassy was changed into the Soviet embassy in China. After the battle of yakesha in 1685, some captured Cossack soldiers and their families were placed in hujiaquan Hutong (demolished) in beiguanting area of Dongzhimen and incorporated into Xianghuang Banner. St. Nicholas Church is located in the east of Dongzhimen North Street. After the battle of yakesha in 1685, some captured Cossack soldiers and their families were placed in hujiaquan Hutong (demolished) in beiguanting area of Dongzhimen and incorporated into Xianghuang Banner.

Historical evolution

In the 28th year of Kangxi (1689), the Guandi temple, which was granted by Emperor Kangxi, was changed into an Orthodox Church, namely St. Nicholas Church, which is the earliest Orthodox Church in Beijing. In 1900, after the expansion of the church, it was renamed "death hall" and called "North Hall". After 1956, the North embassy was changed into the Soviet embassy in China.
