Zengcheng sea erosion cave

Zengcheng sea erosion cave

In the west of Qunxing village, Xintang Town, Zengcheng City, there is a sea erosion cave, the old stone lane. This is the largest marine erosion cave site discovered in Chinese mainland, and is also the deepest marine cave found in Guangdong area. It is an important evidence of great changes in Guangzhou.

Introduction to scenic spots

According to the research of geographical experts, more than 70 million years ago, it was still an ancient sea. The cave was a huge stone formed by submarine sediments. It was constantly eroded by sea water, and the red sandstone and Shuo rock were eroded into a tunnel.

About 2000 years ago, the sea water retreated and formed the sea erosion cave we saw. It is a cave formed by the changes of ancient sea and land, so it is also called "ancient sea trace". The remains of the ancient sea include: Shixiang, Yishi temple, yishiyan, the former site of Diaoyutai in zhanganquan, etc. The sea erosion cave is connected with Yiyan temple and Tianhou palace in Xintang. The rock of the cave is reddish brown. The foot of the cave is cylindrical. The cave is 2.5 meters high and 20 meters long. The lower part is flat and the top is split. It is in the shape of "a line of sky". Therefore, the cave is also called "Stone Lane"

Introduction to scenic spots

The strike of the cave and the rock strata is basically the same, and it inclines from the northeast to the southwest to the sea. Connected with the entrance of the sea erosion cave is a higher and larger stone rock. There is a stone platform under the rock, just like a temple. The villagers of Xintang built a temple with this natural platform, named Yiyan Temple (also known as "Tianhou Palace"), which is connected with the cave and connected with each other. Visitors have a special interest in it.

Yiyan temple is one of the three religious sites legally developed in Zengcheng City, and it is also the largest Buddhist temple in Zengcheng City at present. Every year, the birthday of Tianhou on March 23 of the lunar calendar attracts many pilgrims. The trace of the ancient sea is one of the eight new sceneries in Zengcheng. It is an important evidence of land and sea changes and has high scientific and historical research value
