Maoming Museum

Maoming museum is located at No. 20, Renmin North Road, Maoming City. It is a comprehensive Municipal Museum and a patriotic education base in Maoming City. It is subordinate to Maoming culture, radio, television, press and Publication Bureau. There are 20 employees, including office, cultural relics department, exhibition department, group work department and security department.

Maoming museum is a comprehensive Municipal Museum, covering an area of 8352 square meters, with a total construction area of 5690 square meters. At present, there are 18 employees, including 9 with intermediate title and 4 with primary title. At present, there are more than 1400 pieces (sets) of cultural relics in the collection, including the exhibition of historical relics in Maoming collection, the exhibition of Maoming folk customs, the exhibition of Maoming revolutionary history, and the exhibition of Maoming stone mill culture. The first and second floors are multi-functional exhibition halls, which can hold various temporary exhibitions such as calligraphy and painting, photography, cultural relics, science and technology, as well as various conferences and lectures. Every year, 12 temporary exhibitions and free treasure identification activities were held, and more than 200000 visitors were received. Since 2009, it has been rated as the national third level museum, Maoming patriotism education base and Guangdong party history education base.

City Museum was built in the late 1980s, the main building and functional settings have been unable to keep up with the needs of the development of the times. In order to change the overall image of the museum, improve the level of exhibition and create a national secondary Museum, in 2013, with the approval of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government, the Municipal Museum was decided to carry out the overall transformation.

Development history

Maoming Museum

It was planned to be built in May 1984, officially opened in May 1991 and basically completed in February 1998. The Museum covers an area of 7300 square meters, with a total construction area of 5690 square meters. After more than 20 years of efforts, the collection of cultural relics and specimens has been constantly enriched, including dinosaur egg fossils, unguarded turtle fossils, rhinoceros fossils, silicified wood and other fossils unearthed in Maoming, canoes in the Tang Dynasty, bronze drums from the Han Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty and other precious historical relics, as well as modern folk culture, which are of local characteristics in western Guangdong.

Since August 2002, all the basic displays in the museum have been open to the public free of charge. In 2003, all the work leaped to a new level and achieved gratifying results: the comprehensive building of the cultural relics storehouse was completed, and the security projects of the cultural relics storehouse, the exhibition hall of historical relics, revolutionary history, the exhibition hall of folk relics, the monitoring center room, the corridor passageway on the third and fourth floors, the intelligent electronic security technology monitoring system, the smoke alarm system and the public broadcasting system were completed with high quality The defense hardware facilities have reached the security protection level standards stipulated by the State Administration of cultural relics and the Ministry of public security, realizing the three combinations of civil defense, material defense and technical defense. Strengthen the internal management, constantly improve the service level and service quality, the whole library uniform, wear work license, do warm and polite reception of the audience, provide a safe, comfortable, clean environment for the audience. The social response is warm, the high praise is like a tide, has obtained the remarkable social benefit.

On September 10, 2009, Maoming museum was promoted to the national third level museum.

Exhibition

The main exhibitions include: the fine display of historical relics in Maoming collection, the display of natural fossil specimens in Maoming, the display of Maoming revolutionary history, and so on. At the same time, we often organize calligraphy, fine arts, photography, aerospace, science and technology and other temporary exhibitions. Since its establishment, the museum has held 200 exhibitions and special exhibitions, and has received more than 2 million domestic visitors, Taiwan compatriots, experts, scholars and tourists from the United States, Canada, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Britain and other countries.
