Henan Normal University is a higher normal university with a long history and one of the provincial key universities. Its predecessor is the former college of science of Henan University, which was founded in 1923, and Pingyuan Normal University, which was founded in 1951.

It is located in Xinxiang City, a famous city in Northern Henan at the intersection of Beijing Guangzhou railway and Taiyuan Heze railway. It is adjacent to Taihang railway in the north and the Yellow River in the south. The famous "battle of pastoral areas" in history took place here. Since its establishment 75 years ago, Henan Normal University has developed into a comprehensive Normal University with a complete range of subjects. Henan Normal University has good conditions for running a school. It covers an area of nearly 500000 square meters, with a school building area of more than 250000 square meters. The library has a collection of 1.35 million books and more than 3000 Chinese and foreign periodicals. The herbarium is the largest and most diverse Museum of biological specimens in Henan Province.
