Yizai Jincheng

Yizai Jincheng, also known as "erkunqu fort" or "Anping fort", has a very important pioneering position in the history of Taiwan fort. It is not only the first modern western style fort in Taiwan, but also the first one equipped with 18000 kg British Armstrong cannons in Taiwan. With its complete shape, large scale and infinite gun power, it is really an epoch-making milestone in Taiwan's north and South cannons.

Yizai Jincheng was originally founded to fight against the Japanese troops who invaded Taiwan because of the Mudan society incident. Later, although the incident was put to an early end, Taiwan's coastal defense military took a big step towards modernization.

Yizai Jincheng covers an area of more than 3 hectares and is designed and completed by French engineers. In shape, it belongs to the square turret of western style, with four protruding corners and concave center. There is a moat around the fort, on which there are big guns and small guns, and the center is the drill ground. There are also several western style big fort with quite complete configuration.

Yizai Jincheng

Yizai Jincheng is located in the south of Anping District. It used to be the place of two Kunyu, commonly known as the big fort. It was one of the fortifications built in the late Qing Dynasty to strengthen coastal defense. Built in 1876, it was the first western style fort in Taiwan. It was not until 1975, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the fort, that Tainan Municipal government restored the old view. Now it is listed as a first-class historic site.

historical significance

Yizai Jincheng used to be an important defense line for the security of the Taiwan Strait. Yizai Jincheng, about 2 meters high, was designed and built by French engineers. A large number of building materials were taken from the abandoned wall of reranzhe (Anping Castle). The wall was surrounded by dense trees, and there were prominent embankments at the four corners, so as to set up cannons to facilitate long-distance attack. It was a common design form of European fort at that time. The moat was formed by surrounding the city with trenches, which could lead the sea water into the city. The gate was made of red bricks, and the outer forehead was covered with a wall Shen Baozhen wrote the book "the golden city of one hundred million years" and "the mainstay" of the inner volume. The green grass in the city is smooth and broad, and the bronze statue of Shen Baozhen can be seen. At dusk, in the mouth of the river, you can see the setting sun and the evening breeze in the city, which makes you think about the ancient feeling.

"Yizai Jincheng", a famous Anti Japanese city across the river from Anping castle, is commonly known as "Anping fort" and "big fort". In 1874 (the 13th year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty), it was built by Shen Baozhen, Fujian shipping minister, to fight against Japanese aggression and strengthen coastal defense. On the top of the city gate is the inscription of "Yizai Jincheng", and on the top of the city gate is the inscription of "Wanliu mainstay", which is eye-catching and vigorous. On the wall in front of the gate stands a bronze statue of Shen Baozhen and three cannons. According to records, at that time, the fort was square with protruding four corners and concave central part. There are five cannons and six small cannons on the fort. The whole fort can hold 1500 people. As an important coastal defense area on Taiwan Island, Yizai Jincheng made a historic contribution to the fight against Japanese invasion. As time goes on, Haipu has gradually formed a new place. Today, Yizai Jincheng has lost its dangerous and important position in the Cape and become a historical relic for people to pay attention to.

Architectural features

Yizai Jincheng was built in 1874, which was the same year of the Peony Society incident in Japan. It was completed in 1876. Yizai Jincheng covers an area of about 3 hectares. It is a western style red brick building with square shape and four corner fortresses. The concave site in the center is used to drill the army. The sea water outside the city is used to protect the moat. There are cannons on the city, so it is very convenient It is also known as Anping fort, sanhetu fort and famous Anti Japanese city. It is listed as the first historic site in China.
