Xinglong Station of National Astronomical Observatory

Xinglong Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is located in the hinterland of Yanshan Mountain in Xinglong, Hebei Province. It belongs to the optical Open Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is the optical astronomical observation base of the National Observatory for stars and galaxies. It has large sky area multi-target Optical Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope, 2.16m optical telescope and other important astronomical instruments.

Xinglong Observatory of the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, located in Xinglong County, Hebei Province, 200 kilometers north of Beijing, was established in 1968.

LAMOST was built in 2009. Before that, there was a 2.16m optical telescope. The complex design and manufacture of LAMOST are all completed by Chinese scientists. LAMOST is not only the largest spectral Survey Telescope in the world, but also the one with the highest spectral acquisition rate. It is a sharp tool for census of celestial bodies. From September 2011 to June 2013, its first data set contains 2.2 million spectra, which exceeds the total number of all known stellar surveys in the world. In December 2014, the second batch of data sets was released to domestic astronomers and international collaborators, with a total of 4.13 million Celestial Spectra, including 3.27 million high-quality spectra, and a catalog of spectral parameters of 2.2 million stars.
