Dream Lake

Dreamlike lake, formerly known as Yachi, is called "dreamlike Lake" because of its topography. In winter, it is shrouded in the northeast monsoon, and the clouds and fog are misty all day long. In summer, the lake is rippling and the scenery is charming. As the Dream Lake is an ecological protection zone, it is necessary to apply to the management office before entering.

Dream Lake

Dreamlike lake is a natural lake located in Beitou District, Taipei City, Taiwan Province, with an elevation of 870m, an area of 0.3 hectares and a depth of less than 1m. The main water source is rainwater. Visitors can walk up the trail from the Dream Lake parking lot beside Yangjin highway to the back downhill of the Dream Lake viewing platform, or enter the Seven Star Park from the climbing entrance of the Scout nursery camp and follow the trail beside the park. At present, it is under the jurisdiction of the Management Office of dreamlike Lake Ecological Reserve in Yangmingshan "national" park.

Dreamlike lake, formerly known as "duck pond", was inhabited by many water ducks in the early days. What really makes it famous is its rare aquatic fern: Taiwan leek. Taiwan leek is an endemic species in Taiwan, and it only lives in the dreamlike lake. It is a rare and endangered conservation plant. It was first discovered here by Zhang Huizhu and Xu Guoshi in 1971. In the lake and lakeside, water hyacinth, iris, water chestnut, rush grass, water lily and other aquatic plants can also be found. It is also an endemic species in Taiwan. Channa septempunctata, a carnivorous fish that is good at drought tolerance and can always be found in the mud area, is also one of the few fish that can live here.

Dreamlike lake is located under the hillside of Qixing mountain. It is blocked by the terrain. In winter, under the northeast monsoon, the clouds curl around from time to time. It is romantic and mysterious, so it gets its name.

The dream lake was formed about 5600 years ago, and the Taiwan leek in the lake appeared about 5000 years ago. According to the investigation of experts, dreamlike lake should not be a volcanic barrier lake or crater lake, but a barrier lake caused by slope collapse. On the upper slope of the Hunan end of the dream, there was a landslide, which blocked the narrow valley and formed a depression, and gradually impounded into a lake.

Dreamlike lake is in the period of swamp and Peat Deposition in the late stage of lake evolution. If the average sedimentation rate (about 1 mm / year) of the formation of Dream Lake is maintained in the future, the time when the sediment is higher than the lowest part of the earth dike around the lake area (about 1.5 meters in the south of the lake area) will be about 1500 years later. In other words, the life span of the lake is about 1500 years, and then it will be affected by sulfur gas, the product of volcanism. The pH value of the water in the lake is the lowest among all the lakes and reservoirs in Taiwan, and the lowest has reached 4.5. The pH value of black peat rich in organic matter accumulated at the bottom of the lake is 3.8. Dream Lake is a very acidic lake, and it often dries up in summer. Only in winter can the water level of the lake look much higher than usual.
