Taipei central library is the largest public library in Taiwan Province. It was developed on the basis of some books collected by the National Central Library during the period of the Republic of China. It was built in 1954 and officially opened to the public in 1956. The museum is located in Nanhai Road botanical garden, Taipei. In November 1985, a new building was built on Zhongshan South Road in Taipei. In October 1973, Taiwan Provincial Taipei Library became its branch.
