Because the riverbed of the old channel is higher than the ground, the embankment is broken, and the river channel is silted, the water level of the Yellow River is 3 to 7 meters higher than the ground in every flood season, which seriously threatens the property safety of the people in the urban area. To this end, the people of Xuzhou have carried out countless arduous struggles. It left behind the achievements and stories of Su Shi, the governor of Song Dynasty, and pan Jixun, the premier of Ming Dynasty. However, in the old society with low productivity, people could only send water to Su Gu Xianling and tie Niu to cure the Yellow River disease. Therefore, the Yellow River is like a huge water bag. It has been hanging over the heads of Xuzhou people for thousands of years, and there is a flood at any time. If we don't get rid of the flood, we can't sleep and eat well. Since liberation, Xuzhou municipal Party committee and municipal government have successively carried out large-scale renovation of river bed in line with the principle of people's city, people's construction and building a good city for the people, and basically controlled the flood in the late 1950s. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Municipal People's government was determined to fundamentally control the old Yellow River and turn flood into water conservancy. On the one hand, it dredged, widened, restored dykes and built stones to block water. On the other hand, it paved roads and bridges, planted flowers and trees on the river banks, and made great efforts to afforest, thus starting a new comprehensive control project of the Yellow River. After more than ten years of construction, an open belt park with green trees, evergreen all year round, connected scenic spots and pleasant scenery is presented to the public. Therefore, the Yellow River Park, which starts from Hequn bridge in the north and ends at jizuiba in the south, crosses nine bridges in Qingyun, Jizhong, Heping and seven main roads in Zhongshan, Huaihai, Jianguo and other urban areas. It has a total length of 6313 meters, a width of 20 meters, 166 flower beds, 90225 trees and shrubs, more than 50 tree species, more than 8000 meters of garden roads and 157.6 mu of green area. The forest belt covers an area of 43 mu, and more than 30 mu of flowers and plants are sown every year. The old Yellow River, like a green jade belt, has become an important scenic tourist belt in Xuzhou.
