Yao Mausoleum

Yaoling is 35 kilometers northeast of Linfen City, Shanxi Province, on the north side of Liyu Waterloo River in Guocun village. Linfen was called Pingyang in ancient times. Because Yao built the capital here, it is called Yaodu. There is a Yao temple in the south of the city, and a Yao mausoleum in the east of the city. The earth cliffs around the mausoleum face each other, and the river flows south in front of the mausoleum. Pines and cypresses green, Hill towering, 50 meters high, around 80 meters. There is a temple in front of the mausoleum, which is said to have been built in the early Tang Dynasty. According to the inscriptions in 1202, Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty once stayed here during his expedition to the Liao Dynasty, and made a statue of himself because he visited the mausoleum of Yao. During the reign of emperor Zhongtong of the Yuan Dynasty, Jiang Shan, a Taoist, believed that emperor Shizu of the Yuan Dynasty ordered the construction of Yao mausoleum, which was rebuilt in Chenghua of the Ming Dynasty, Jiajing of the Qing Dynasty, Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty, and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. Now the mausoleum is still the same, the pine and cypress are still the same. There are Mountain Gate, memorial archway, wing room, offering hall, sleeping hall, stele Pavilion and other buildings in the temple. With compact layout, fine wood carving, red walls and green tiles, surrounded by Qingliu ancient cypresses, the painting reflects each other. There are more than ten steles in the temple, recording the achievements of King Yao and the evolution of the mausoleum. In 1539, a complete picture of Yao's mausoleum was engraved on the tablet of Yao's mausoleum, which is well preserved. On May 25, 2006, Yaoling, as an ancient building from Ming Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, was approved by the State Council to be listed in the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
