In the open space of a cosmetics factory in Tangbei village, Jianggao Town, Baiyun District, Guangzhou, a turret stands uncoordinated. This is an ancient turret about 23 meters high, which is divided into four floors by wooden boards. From the outside, the walls are mottled and many small holes are scattered. Inside the turret, there are trapezoidal small windows that open inside and close out. The top of the ancient turret looks like the beacon tower of the Great Wall. According to the villagers, this is a "hundred years old" turret, which used to resist bandits and work as a granary Carrying too much collective memory of villagers.

According to Huang Yibiao, a 64 year old man, the building is about 100 years old. In the old days of social unrest, bandits often robbed Jianggao area, so the villagers decided to raise funds to build two turrets to defend themselves against bandits. "At that time, the bandits did not dare to come back when they saw that there was a tall turret in the village. The turret became the patron saint of the village." Huang Bo said.

Huang Bo recalled that when he was a child, there were threshing grounds all around the turret. When the harvest season came, piles of millet piled around the turret. Huang Bo and his playmates went to the gun house to catch "starlings". At midnight in summer, they would climb to the attic of the gun house to sleep. "In summer, there are no mosquitoes in the turret. It's windy and not hot at all. It's a natural air conditioner. At that time, my friends and I often climbed to the top floor of the outdoor platform to play Huang Bo said.

Not only Huang Bo, but also many villagers have memories of the ancient turret. According to the villagers, during the land reform period, the "counter revolutionaries" at that time were once held in the turret. This turret can be said to be the carrier of villagers' collective memory. According to the staff of the new Bureau of culture, radio, film and television of Baiyun District, the ancient turret was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Baiyun District in 2010.
