Weng Tonghe Memorial

Weng Tonghe Memorial

It is located in the "caiyitang" (Weng's former residence) of wengjiaxiang gate in Changshu ancient city. It is a national key cultural relics protection unit. Weng Tonghe spent his youth here, and is now a memorial hall for Weng Tonghe. According to historical records, the building here was built in the Ming Dynasty during the reign of Chenghua and Hongzhi. In 1833, it was purchased by Weng Xincun, the father of Weng Tonghe. It is an official residence with typical architectural style in the south of the Yangtze River. Weng-tung-ho

Weng Tonghe (1830-1904) was born in Changshu, Jiangsu Province. He was named Shuping after Sheng Fu. The number one scholar in the sixth year of Xianfeng (1856) of Qing Dynasty. He was the teacher of emperor Tongzhi and Emperor Guangxu. He has served successively as the censor of zuodu in the duchayuan, Minister of the Ministry of punishment, Ministry of industry, Ministry of household affairs, Minister of military aircraft, prime minister, Minister of the Yamen of national affairs, assistant bachelor and so on. He has been in the court for more than 40 years. The important political activities he participated in all his life had a profound influence on Modern Chinese history. He strongly advocated the reform and reform, and was praised by Kang Youwei as "the first mentor of China's reform".

Weng Tonghe Memorial

Located in wengjiaxiang gate of Changshu ancient city, it was renovated by Weng's former residence and opened to the public on November 1, 1991. Weng's former residence is a well preserved bureaucratic residence with typical Jiangnan architectural style. Weng Tonghe spent his youth here. In 1990, Mr. Weng Xingqing (WAN GE), the Chinese American, the great grandson of Weng Tonghe, donated his world heritage to the country. The main building "caiyitang" was announced as the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council in 1996. In order to protect and develop cultural relic resources, give full play to the role of patriotism education and history education, and carry forward the culture of Changshu, the people's Government of Changshu City has repeatedly repaired Weng's former residence, and listed the implementation of the comprehensive restoration project of Weng's former residence as a practical project in 2000. The expanded exhibition contents of Weng Tonghe Memorial Hall mainly include: Weng Tonghe's life story; Weng Tonghe's cultural relics and calligraphy; Weng Tonghe's main works and papers and information on Weng Tonghe at home and abroad. At the same time, it is supplemented by the Qing Dynasty mahogany furniture which reflects the original appearance of history, so that visitors can feel personally. Weng Tonghe Memorial Hall covers an area of 6000 square meters and a construction area of 3000 square meters. Its Ming and Qing buildings include Caiyi hall, sedan hall, yulanxuan, zhizhizhai, houtanglou, shuangguixuan, Jinyang library, Siyong hall, baiguxuan, etc. There are exhibitions introducing Weng Tonghe's life story and Weng's calligraphy. In 2010, Changshu Zhuangyuan historical exhibition hall, located in the sixth and seventh entrance buildings of Weng's former residence, was completed and opened.

Imperial master's study

Jinyang book house is located in the front yard of Siyong hall. It has its own independent courtyard in the shape of "day" and the front lane of Weng's house. Today, there is a "Jinyang study" to display the scene of Weng Tonghe's study. The furnishings and layout of the house show the scene of the old study. There are four treasures of the study on the desk. On the back of the desk is a couplet rubbings of Weng Tonghe's book, which says "all the people who enter our room are upright, and there are many ancient paintings in this hall". On the right side is a bookcase of twenty four histories. On the opposite side of the study is a rest place, with four ancient rubbings on the inner wall.

Exhibition hall of songchan art garden

The exhibition hall of songchan art garden is located in the northwest of Weng's former residence in Ming and Qing Dynasties, covering an area of 220 square meters. It has exhibition hall, office space, storage space, etc. it can hold individual exhibitions and special exhibitions of calligraphy and painting, collection and so on.

Champion History Museum

Changshu Zhuangyuan historical exhibition hall is located in the Qing Dynasty building of Weng's former residence, with a construction area of 450 square meters. The exhibition hall mainly displays the exhibition room of Changshu champion, the exhibition room of Changshu prime minister, the list of Changshu past dynasties, the list of flowers, the list of biographies and the list of Jinshi of Changshu past dynasties. There are portraits, biographies, stories, historical records, manuscripts, paintings and works of eight number one scholars, such as Lu Qi and Zhou Hu, in the exhibition room of number one scholars; the life stories of 10 prime ministers in Changshu, such as Wu Xian, Weng Xincun and Weng Tonghe, are introduced in the exhibition room of prime ministers.

ICAC

"Zhizhizhai" in Weng's former residence is the name of Weng Tonghe's father Weng Xincun's study, which takes the meaning of "contentment without shame, knowledge without danger, can last for a long time" in Laozi. Weng's family precept is: rich and noble, contented and noble. Now in the exhibition rooms of "zhizhizhai" and "yulanxuan", the historical materials of Weng's honest deeds, "self-discipline" poems, and the evaluation of Weng Tonghe over the past century are displayed. Now it is listed as "Suzhou anti-corruption education base".

Statue scene of "the first mentor of China's reform"

Weng Tonghe, a famous patriotic politician in modern China, is the most outstanding figure in the Weng family in Changshu. He served successively as the censor of zuodu, the Minister of punishment, the Minister of work, the Minister of household affairs, the assistant bachelor, the Minister of military aircraft, and the Minister of national affairs. He was also the imperial teacher of Tongzhi and Guangxu dynasties. Weng Tonghe was in the dynasty for more than 40 years, when the Chinese nation was in danger and changing times. He shared the country's worries with the respect of the emperor and his teachers and the importance of his ministers. In the Sino French war and Sino Japanese Sino Japanese War of 1894-1895, he opposed compromise and peace, advocated resisting foreign invasion and defending territorial integrity. In the reform movement of 1898, he strongly recommended the reform talents, advocated the new deal, and assisted the Guangxu reform.
