Yueping Park in Hengyang City, Hunan Province is located in the south of Hengyang City, near the city center, with a total area of 21 hectares. It is named after Yueping mountain in the garden. At the top of the mountain, there was a pavilion of green trees and a forest of fragrant trees. Famous scenic spots include Yueping mountain, anti Japanese War Memorial Hall and zoo.

Development history

In the late Qing Dynasty, Yueping Academy was set up on the top of the mountain. After 1902, it was changed into Qingquan official primary school of higher learning and rural normal school. The ancient buildings on the mountain were bombed by Japanese invaders in 1944. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the people of Hengyang built brick towers on the top of the mountain to commemorate the victory of the Anti Japanese war. It has been renovated and renamed Hengyang Liberation Monument. In the east of Yueping, there is a city museum, which displays and collects thousands of cultural relics, especially the exhibition of Wang Chuanshan's life story and works. There is a zoo at the West foot of the mountain. There are monkey mountain, bird lake, fish pond, beast hall, etc. There is a roller skating rink in the south of Yueping mountain. There is also a man-made lake, cloud pool, which is made of dawantang. There are pavilions, platforms, bridges, paths, flower beds and rockeries. The layout is elegant and the craft is superb.

Yueping mountain, also known as Huayao mountain in the past, is said to have two immortals, Huang and Ge, alchemy on the mountain in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. It's also said why the fairy girl also stopped here and got her name. At the foot of the anther mountain, there is Guangxiao Baoen Temple (anther Temple), which was built in the fifth year of Baoyou in the Southern Song Dynasty (1257 AD). The temple is solemn, majestic, quiet and elegant. It was one of the four Buddhist forests in Hengyang at that time. There is a spring river well in the west of the temple. The water is clear and clear. The gilded dragon is carved on the temple. The water wave is rippling. The shape of the dragon is sometimes hidden and sometimes appears. It is known as the "flower spring river dragon claw" and one of the "eight sceneries" in Hengyang. The back hall of the temple was destroyed in the war of resistance against Japan, and the front hall survived. It was also destroyed in the turbulent years. The ancient temple has disappeared, and the area belongs to the theater school. The nearby Hengyang children's East tour place has a zoo. On Yueping mountain, there used to be a green Pavilion and a fragrant forest. At the end of Ming Dynasty, Zhang Tongchang, a scholar of Zhongshu, wrote "Yue Ping Qiu Bi" in his pavilion. When Jiyang after snow, birds stand on the eaves of pavilions and birds make noise on the branches. It used to be one of the eight sceneries in Hengyang. There is a saying that "Yueting snow and Jiyang birds make noise". It seems believable to speculate that at that time there were few people and a hundred birds often chirped in the mountains. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Yueping Academy was built on the top of the mountain. Behind the Academy, there was a dragon like outer city corridor. Under the corridor, there was Baoen temple. At the foot of the mountain, there was Jiangxi guild hall. It's all history. During the Anti Japanese War, Hengyang became a hero city. Yueping was also a phoenix in the fire. All the historical sites were burned. After the restoration, a "Hengyang Anti Japanese War Memorial Tower" appeared on the top of the mountain. There were two auxiliary pavilions in front of the tower. The front of the tower was inscribed by Jiang Zhongzheng. After liberation, it was renamed "Hengyang liberation memorial tower", just a change of name. In order to respect history, it was still called "Hengyang Anti Japanese War Memorial Tower" in 84, and urged the late chairman Cheng Xingling to write a book, heighten the tower body, and renovate the auxiliary Pavilion for people to pay tribute to Hengyang Anti Japanese war dead soldiers. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can have a panoramic view of the city.

Scenery at the foot of the mountain

At the foot of Yueping mountain, the former Jiangxi guild hall has been rebuilt into a museum. There are Wang Fuzi's special hall, antique shops and the Dragon exhibition in the year of the dragon. Next to the museum is the flower garden, which has flowers and orchids for people to watch. The artificial lake, which is only one road away from the museum, is built on the basis of dawantang. There is a pool named Yunchi, a circular path around the pool, and a pavilion in the center of the lake in the north. Between the pavilion and the island in the center of the lake, there is a jade belt bridge imitating the summer palace. People can play and have a rest on the island.
