Xishan carving house

Xishan carved building is an ancient building group in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, covering an area of more than 6000 square meters. It has been completed in four years of the Qing Dynasty. The whole carved building is connected with buildings, rooms and suites. The buildings are connected with each other, and the rooms are connected with each other. It is the largest ancient house in the south of the Yangtze River. There are more than 3000 pieces of brick and wood carvings in the Qing Dynasty, and they are different! With the characteristics of "abundance, delicacy, cleverness and strangeness", a large number of patterns with landscape, flowers and birds, feathers and rich antiquity are carved, which are of great interest in life. It is a classic work of Xiangshan Gang craft in the south of the Yangtze River in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Xishan Diaohua building is located in Tangli village, Xishan town. In ancient times, most of the transportation in the south of the Yangtze River was by water, while Tangli has "living water" docks extending in all directions. The original name of Xishan carving house is "Ren Ben Tang", which means "Ren Ben, Li Jiao Ben". Xishan carved building covers an area of about 3 mu. It once had five entrances and seven courtyards. It was built in the reign of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty. It can be regarded as the most prominent family in Xishan. Carved buildings were built by Xu's descendants in Kangxi, Qianlong, Xianfeng and Daoguang dynasties.

Among them, beams, lintels and long windows are full of wonderful wood carvings; the gatehouse, the screen wall and the wall are made of solid and heavy brick carvings. Plus more than 3000 pieces of sculpture, from large brick plaques to small wood carved flower windows, or flowers, birds, fish and insects, or drama stories, there are no similarities. It's a pity that many of them were destroyed in the cultural revolution. Mr. Shi Shuqing, a famous cultural relic appraiser, once said: "it's not an ordinary house, it has royal style!".

Suzhou city passes Mudu Town, Xukou Town, Taihu Lake Wetland Park and Taihu Lake Bridge to Xishan island. Turn right at the pier of Taihu Lake Bridge No.3, then turn right at T-junction, and then go through miaomiaofeng scenic spot. After 2 km, you can get to Xishan Diaohua building.

Walking into the Xishan carving building, tourists will be amazed at the exquisite brick, wood and stone carvings. It can be said that "no carving can make a house, and carving is precious.". The whole upstairs is a place with wood structure, which is completely surrounded by all kinds of lifelike wood carvings; the beams and columns, lintels, window sashes and purlins of the house are full of exquisite wood carvings; and the places with bricks on the door upstairs, the screen wall and the wall are full of elegant and exquisite brick carvings. Brick plaques as large as several feet long, wooden windows as small as one inch long, flowers, birds, fish and insects, or anecdotes and allusions, all of them are carefully carved.

Another reason why Xu's renben hall deeply attracted scholars and distinguished guests to visit was the loyal and righteous deeds of Xu Huiyan, one of the famous anti Jin generals in the Song Dynasty and a well-known and well-known Duke of Zhuang. While enjoying the art of carving, the tourists also listen to a patriotic history of loyal ministers and good generals.

Xu Huiyan was once as famous as Yue Fei. He was one of the main generals in the Southern Song Dynasty. Finally, he fought with the Jin soldiers in the Jinning battlefield and died for his country. His nephew Xu Jiqing was also a patriotic loyal minister with both wisdom and courage. In 1169, Xu Jiqing served as the magistrate of Pingjiang Prefecture. Uncle and nephew became the most glorious and respected ancestors in the family of Renbentang. In both the new and old ancestral halls of the Xu family, there is a special shrine dedicated to Xu Huiyan, the loyal Duke of Zhuang. The old house is also known as the general's house. Behind the Green Palace of the ancestral hall, there is a plaque carrying forward Xu Huiyan's "loyalty to the sun and the moon". On the left side of the tea pavilion of renben Hall's old house, there is a special God's main hall. Every festival, the main hall of renben hall will be hung with a statue of Xu Huiyan.
