Chengdu Sichuan Opera Art Center is the first comprehensive cultural entertainment place with Sichuan Opera as its name and opera performance in China funded and constructed by the government. It is the cultural industry base of Chengdu Sichuan Opera Theater and the performance, research, protection, inheritance and development center of Sichuan Opera.

Introduction to the center

The total construction area of the art center is about 12715 square meters. Including: Jinjiang theater, Yuelai tea garden (building), Sichuan Opera Art Museum, multi-functional rehearsal hall, dance hall and conference room, art creation center, Sichuan Opera square.

Historical evolution

The predecessor of Chengdu Sichuan Opera Art Center is the well-known Jinjiang theater. Previously, it was Yuelai tea garden, which is familiar to Chengdu citizens. The former site is laolang temple. It is said that it is a gathering place for Sichuan opera artists organized by Wei Changsheng, a Chengdu Jintang artist. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Zhou huaixiao set up Yuelai company with 80000 yuan of silver shares, changed laolang temple into Yuelai tea garden, and was stationed and performed by "Chengdu Sanqing Opera Club" for a long time. Yuelai tea garden is not only the base of Sichuan opera reform movement in the late Qing Dynasty, but also the "Wozi" of Sichuan Opera recognized by the society. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Yuelai teahouse changed its way to open. According to Du Fu's poem "Jinjiang spring comes to heaven and earth", it was renamed Jinjiang theater. The layout of the theater is in the classical national style, surrounded by corridors, luxuriant flowers and trees, with additional pools and flowers planted in the vestibule. The environment is fresh and beautiful. Under the decision of the 8th meeting of the 8th Chengdu municipal Party committee, Jinjiang theater will be transformed into Sichuan Opera Art Center.

Jinjiang Theater

Jinjiang theater, with a total area of 4079 square meters, is a multi-functional theater with comprehensive performances. In terms of decoration, it has the cultural connotation of Sichuan Opera characteristics. The theater is equipped with computer push-pull, lift stage and music floor, digital subtitle machine, high-end imported audio, professional dance beauty, lighting, and central air conditioning. It is equipped with 707 comfortable aviation seats, which are divided into floor compartment (283) and hall compartment (424). The viewing angle is designed according to the best audio-visual effect. The whole theater is richly decorated, simple and elegant. It is one of the few new professional and modern theaters in Chengdu.

Yuelai tea garden

The former site is the old langmiao temple where the troupe artists offered sacrifices to the God of opera. It is said that it was built by Wei Changsheng, a famous artist from Jintang, who was famous in the capital during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty (around 1905). The newly completed Yuelai tea garden maintains the original courtyard style of Yuelai tea garden, with a total area of 2259 square meters, including ordinary tea garden on the first floor, mid-range tea garden on the second floor and open-air ecological tea garden on the roof. In the middle-class teahouse on the second floor, the walls of the rooms are inlaid with various carving techniques to set off a strong artistic atmosphere. On the first floor, an antique Wannian stage is also built to carry out small-scale opera performances.

Sichuan Opera Museum

Chengdu Sichuan Opera Art Museum, with a total area of 964 square meters, is divided into visiting area and VIP meeting room. Visit the three halls to show the audience the historical evolution, artistic achievements and other valuable information, photos and objects of Sichuan Opera.
