Qionghai Heshui Reservoir

Heshui Reservoir in Qionghai City is located in Futian Town of Xinyuan water system. It was built in October 1965. It is a homogeneous earth dam. The top of the main dam is 950m long and one auxiliary dam is 325m long. In 1966, the earth dam was filled to the designed elevation. The upstream slope protection of earth dam adopts three types: Precast concrete block 50 × 50 × 10 cm, cast-in-place concrete 10 m × 1 m × 10 cm plate and masonry (with sand gravel cushion 15 cm thick) 30 cm thick. The dam is located at the strong typhoon outlet, which poses a great threat to the dam safety. From 1970 to 1972, the dam and slope protection were damaged many times. In 1972, typhoon No.20 caused the most serious damage. All the concrete precast block revetments were washed away, and the 350 meter earth dam on the left bank of the spillway collapsed seriously. The first pedestrian bridge on the right bank of the spillway of typhoon No.14 in 1973 was also pushed 5 cm downstream by the typhoon. In 1976, it was rebuilt as masonry slope protection, and a one meter high masonry wave wall was built. Since then, it has been running safely.

The storehouse is close to the sea. The sea breeze contains salt and alkali, which has corrosive effect on metal structure equipment and is easy to damage.
