Zhangjia Garden

--The building scale of Zhangjia garden is in the middle of Jianshui folk house, second only to Zhujia garden, and the plane layout of the house is basically the plane form of four in five patio in Jianshui traditional folk house.

--Compared with the Zhujia garden, the woodcarving here is more exquisite than ever. Zhangjia garden is still playing the role of residential, but it is already a few different families scattered in various courtyards, no longer the big family before.

--There is no trace of redecoration here. Although it looks a bit shabby, it is more comfortable than the "repair as old" of Zhujia garden.

Zhangjia Garden

Zhangyuan district starts from Shimen 1st Road in the East, Maoming North Road in the west, Wujiang Road in the north and Weihai Road in the south, covering an area of 43800 square meters and a construction area of 62500 square meters. The historical place name of Zhangjia garden originated in 1882. Zhang Shuhe bought the garden and named it "Zhang's Weichun garden". As the first public space in the late Qing Dynasty, the garden became a landmark for exhibitions, speeches, amusement facilities, Western afternoon tea and many other public activities. In 1919, the land was divided one by one, and Lilong house and garden house were built respectively. The existing historical environment is mainly composed of Lilong building and garden house built in 1920s.

Zhangyuan is located in the bustling business district of Nanjing West Road in Jing'an District. It is located in the core area of Nanjing West Road historic preservation zone. It is close to shimenyi road in the East, Weihai Road in the south, Maoming North Road in the west, Nanjing West Road in the north, Wujiang Road Leisure Street, meitaiheng business district and Xingye Taigu Hui. Development history

In 1882, after Wuxi rich businessman Zhang Shuhe bought land, he built a garden and named it "Zhang's Wei Chun garden". People used to call it "Zhang Yuan". In 1885, it began to be open to tourists for free. After it was closed in 1918, the concession authorities divided the land for sale and built the Shikumen Lane Residence. From 1920 to 1934, it was built by 28 owners. At present, there are as many as 28 different architectural styles of Shikumen Lane Residence, which is the largest Shikumen building complex in Shanghai in the middle and later period.

On September 30, 2018, Jing'an District launched the protective expropriation of Zhangyuan plot. The expropriation will follow the urban renewal concept of "changing the left to the demolished", adopt the way of "levying but not demolishing, leaving the house by people" and "leaving the house by people" to improve the residents' living conditions; "leaving the house" will repair the old as before, keep the historical style unchanged, and completely preserve the neighborhood texture and lane texture.

As the largest, best preserved and most abundant historical building complex in Shanghai, Zhangyuan is located in the most important and core position in Shanghai. It plays an important role in the present urban function pattern.
