Gutian County, Fujian Province, known as "the city of edible fungi in China", is the base county with the most complete industrial chain, the most detailed professional division, the most complete varieties, the largest production scale and the widest sales market of edible fungi in China. It has been awarded the titles of "hometown of edible fungi in China", "national advanced county of edible fungi industry", "national excellent base county (city) of edible fungi industry", "national excellent demonstration county of edible fungi new rural construction", "national demonstration county of edible fungi catering culture", "national advanced county of edible fungi cultural industry construction" and so on.

Gutian County has a long history of mushroom production, as early as the Sui Daye years (AD 609) in the territory of people engaged in mushroom production. More than 30 varieties of edible fungi have been developed and planted in the county, among which Tremella fuciformis, Agrocybe aegerita, Lentinus edodes, Hericium erinaceus and Auricularia auricula are the main varieties. The annual output of edible fungi in the county is 750000 tons (fresh products), and the total industrial output value is nearly 10 billion yuan, of which the annual output of Tremella fuciformis is 290000 tons, accounting for more than 90% of the world's total output. Its products not only sell well all over the country, but also enter dozens of countries and regions such as Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe and America, with a production and sales rate of more than 98%.
