Zhengding ancient city wall

·The Zhengding city wall was built in the Northern Zhou Dynasty and was built of stone. In 1571, Gu Shushi, the magistrate of Zhending County, changed the Earth City into a brick city, and later generations rebuilt or rebuilt it on this basis. Zhengding ancient city wall is located in Hebei Province. Built in the Northern Zhou Dynasty, it was built with stone at the beginning. In the first year of Tang BAOYING (762), the city was irrigated by the overflow of Hutuo River, and the city collapsed day by day. In 1449, it was expanded into a Tucheng with a circumference of 24 Li, a height of 3 Zhang and a width of 2 Zhang. In the fifth year of Longqing (1571), Gu Shushi, the magistrate of Zhending County, changed Tucheng into a brick city. Later, Zhou Yingzhong, the magistrate of Zhending County, applied for more than 60000 liang of silver in the Treasury. He expropriated the local people from all counties under the jurisdiction of Zhending Prefecture and started the construction in sections. It was completed in the fourth year of Wanli (1576). The four gates are called Yingxu in the East, Changle in the south, Zhenyuan in the West and Yongan in the north, with moon city and urn City attached. Later generations rebuilt or rebuilt on this basis. It plays an important role in preventing flood and military defense. Due to historical reasons and the development of urban construction in recent years, Zhengding city is mostly earth city except for the existing city gate. The east gate has been buried under the national defense fortifications, the south gate is Cunli gate and Wengcheng gate, the west gate is Cunli gate, Wengcheng gate, the north gate is Cunli gate and the moon gate. Zhengding city wall was announced as a key cultural relic protection unit by Hebei Provincial People's Government on July 15, 1993.

Zhengding is 15 kilometers south of Shijiazhuang city and 258 kilometers north of Beijing city. Beijing Guangzhou, Beijing Shenzhen, Shide and Shijiazhuang Taiyuan railways pass through the city.

The southern city wall protection project is divided into three phases. The earliest phase includes 371 meters of main city wall, 379 meters of urn wall, 274 meters of moon wall and three platforms. The second phase of the project includes the repair of the main city wall between the southwest corner building and the southeast corner building. Due to the cold weather in winter and the particularity of building materials, the project will be suspended soon. It will start again in the spring of 2016, and the second phase of the project is planned to be completed in July 2016. The following three phases of the project, including the system renovation of the main city wall between the southwest turret and the west gate and the main city wall between the southeast turret and the east gate, have been completed.

World Cultural Heritage

Following the successful application of China's Grand Canal for world cultural heritage, China's Ming and Qing city walls also took the first step on the road of applying for world cultural heritage. In addition to eight cities such as Nanjing, Xi'an and Jingzhou, Xuanhua, Zhengding, Kaifeng, Changting and Zhaoqing will also join in the list of "China's Ming and Qing City Wall's application for World Heritage", forming an "8 + 5" binding mode for China's Ming and Qing City Wall's application for world heritage. Nanjing, with the highest historical value of the ancient city wall, was elected as the "leading" city. Although the joint application of Ming and Qing city walls for the world heritage has taken the first step, the road to apply for the world heritage is still very long, and it will take at least five years to prepare. According to the plan, we will complete the preparation work before the end of 2015, formally submit the application materials to the State Administration of cultural relics by the end of March 2016, formally report to the World Heritage Center for review by January 10, 2017, welcome the final investigation of domestic and foreign authoritative experts by the end of August 2017, and receive the final investigation and World Heritage Review by the end of June 2018 to welcome the world heritage conference.
