Jimei University

Jimei University is one of the eight key universities in Fujian Province.

Jimei University is a provincial multi-disciplinary university, which focuses on teaching, undergraduate education, and cultivation of applied talents with innovative spirit and practical ability, serving local economic construction and social development.

The school enrolls students from all over the country. At present, the university has 19 colleges, 19 master's degree awarding points, 2 master's degree awarding points, 49 undergraduate majors and 6 junior college majors, covering eight disciplines including engineering, agronomy, economics, management, education, science, literature and law, forming a comparative level of postgraduate education, undergraduate education, higher vocational education, overseas education and adult education We have established a complete school running system and successfully carried out Sino foreign cooperation in running schools.

The university has 1526 full-time teachers, including 149 with senior professional title, 457 with deputy senior professional title, 192 with doctor's degree and 742 with master's degree; 1 National candidate for "New Century Talents Project", 11 candidates for "Fujian Province Talents Project", 7 candidates for "Fujian universities new century talents support plan" and 1 double employed academician There are 1 teaching staff, 1 national advanced teacher ethics worker, 1 national excellent ideological and political education worker in Colleges and universities, and 2 provincial teaching teams. As of August 31, 2007, there are 22688 full-time students, with a total assets of 1.8 billion yuan and a total value of 260 million yuan in teaching and research equipment. The campus covers an area of 1275800 square meters. The school has built a 10 Gigabit high-speed campus network, and has begun to fully adopt IPv6 new generation network technology and network wireless access technology. The library has a digital information retrieval center, with a collection of 2119700 paper documents, more than 1.7 million e-books, more than 2900 Chinese and foreign language periodicals, and 43 Chinese and foreign language databases such as VIP full text database.

In September 1996, the Council of Jimei University was established. The board of directors is the macro decision-making body for major affairs of the school. Each term of office is four years. The Executive Board of the board of directors meets once a year, and the board of directors meets once every two years. The Secretary of the Fujian provincial Party committee of the CPC is the honorary chairman of the board of trustees, and the governor of the Fujian Provincial People's government is the chairman of the board of trustees. Jia Qinglin, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, once served as honorary chairman of the Council of Jimei University, and still serves as an adviser to the Council.

The Party Central Committee and the State Council are highly concerned about running Jimei University well. Comrade Jiang Zemin personally inscribed the name of the University and the inscription "carry forward the spirit of Jiageng patriotism and revitalize the cause of Chinese education". Comrade Li Peng inscribed "carry forward the spirit of Jiageng and run Jimei University well" for Jimei University. Qiao Shi, Li Lanqing and other central leaders also made special inscriptions on running Jimei University well. Comrade Li Lanqing not only made a series of important instructions on the merger and reform of the school, but also personally unveiled the school's name plate and personally visited the school to inspect and guide it. On October 2004, comrade Jia Qinglin, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, inspected the school and unveiled the bronze statue of Mr. Chen Jiageng. The Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, comrade Xi Jinping, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Comrade He Guoqiang of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, served as chairman of the school board of Jimei University during the Fujian provincial administration. The reform and development of the school has been carried out. In July 2006, State Councilor Chen Zhili visited the University and spoke highly of its achievements. In August 2007, Comrade Zhou Ji, Minister of education, inspected the University and said, "Jimei University has developed very well in recent years." Provincial and municipal leaders have also visited Jimei University for many times to guide their work.

Jimei University has formed the advantages and characteristics of navigation and Fisheries in its long-term practice. Maritime education is an important base for training senior maritime talents in China, which has great influence in the whole country and Southeast Asia, and is one of the high-level maritime colleges in China; aquatic science is one of the high-level disciplines in Fujian Province, which has certain advantages and influence in China. Marine engineering and aquaculture are the key disciplines at the provincial level. Marine engineering, mechanical design and manufacturing and automation are the characteristics of undergraduate education in provincial colleges and universities.

Jimei learning village, which is well-known at home and abroad, has gone through a glorious course of more than 90 years, and Jimei University, which is developing and growing, is about to usher in its 90th anniversary. Facing the future, the university has made clear three major tasks for the next period, that is, to strive to pass the 2007 undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education with excellent results, further improve the teaching quality and school running level; actively develop postgraduate education; by 2007, the university will complete the construction task of more than 500000 square meters of new campus with high quality and high starting point, so as to meet the sustainable development of various educational undertakings of our university To meet the needs of sustainable development.
