Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (hereinafter referred to as "Beihang", formerly known as Beijing Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, renamed in 1988) was founded in October 1952. It was formed by the merger of the aeronautical departments of eight famous universities, including Tsinghua University and Beiyang University. The university is located in Beijing Zhongguancun high-tech core area, adjacent to the National Olympic Sports Center, is the first key aviation university in New China.
