Open University of Hong Kong

The Open University of Hong Kong is a new type of University established by the Hong Kong Government in 1989, which focuses on teaching and application (formerly known as the Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong. In 1997, the Open University of Hong Kong Ordinance was passed by the Legislative Council of the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative region, officially renamed as the Open University of Hong Kong). It is now one of the eight public universities in Hong Kong. He is also a member of the Commonwealth University Association.

At the beginning of its establishment, the University was the only one in Hong Kong to provide distance local degree courses for in-service people. Its courses cover undergraduate, master's and doctoral degree courses, mainly in English. All degrees awarded are recognized by the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

In line with the higher education policy of the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Open University of Hong Kong started a full-time degree program in 2001 to recruit full-time high school graduates. In 2007, the University joined the joint university admission scheme to provide full-time undergraduate courses together with other government funded public universities for students with HKDSE scores.

In addition, in order to cultivate talents meeting the social and economic needs of Hong Kong, the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has launched a designated major / sector course funding scheme in the 2015 / 16 academic year. Each year, about 1000 students are funded to take selected full-time undergraduate courses. Four major courses have been selected and a total of 350 places have been allocated.

According to the memorandum on mutual recognition of higher education degree certificates between the mainland and Hong Kong signed by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China and the Education Bureau of the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2004, the degrees awarded by the Open University of Hong Kong are recognized by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China. With the approval of the Ministry of education, the Open University of Hong Kong can directly recruit full-time undergraduates from the mainland.

The school has been committed to developing modern and advanced innovative teaching methods to provide students with the best teaching experience to meet the needs of the new generation. It has been repeatedly supported by the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. For example, in 2007, the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region allocated more than HK $60 million to the school to set up an "innovative teaching center" to develop new diversified teaching models. In 2013, he was invited by apple to join ituneu, becoming one of the first global universities to cooperate with ituneu.

At present, our school has about 9000 full-time students, ranking sixth in Hong Kong in terms of the number of full-time students. In addition, there are about 10000 in-service students, and more than 80000 graduates have been awarded degrees by the Open University of Hong Kong so far. It provides students with the flexibility to choose courses with different modes of study. It is a multi-faceted and innovative comprehensive university.
