Founded by the Hong Kong Government in 1984, the Hong Kong Academy for performing arts (HKAPA) is the only tertiary institution providing professional education, training and research in the performing arts, stage arts, film and television. The school's teaching policy reflects the characteristics of Hong Kong's diverse culture, with both Chinese and Western art traditions.

The Hong Kong Academy for performing arts is located on the waterfront of Wan Chai. It has a number of venues suitable for all kinds of performances. With perfect facilities, it is comparable to the world-class theater or concert hall. The venue management department of the college is responsible for the management of the performance venues, providing technical, customer service and box office services for the producers and renters. College performances are usually open or free.
The site of the college is provided by the Hong Kong government, which subsidizes the college annually. The Hong Kong Jockey Club donated HK $300 million to build the school. The school opened in 1985. The Academy will strive to achieve the following goals:

-Through the assistance of graduates in performing arts, the promotion of the public's lifelong interest in art, and the cultivation of school-age children's performing arts, the college's enthusiasm for the training of performing arts professionals will be implemented.
