Capital Normal University is one of the earliest institutions of adult higher education in Beijing. It founded correspondence education in 1977 and evening University in 1981. In 1983, it was listed as the first batch of colleges and universities in Beijing by the Ministry of education. Over the past 41 years, the number of adult higher education graduates of Capital Normal University has reached 97821 (as of the end of July 2017), many of whom have become the backbone of all walks of life.

The College of continuing education of Capital Normal University is an organization established on the basis of the former college of adult education of Capital Normal University. It is the unified management organization and school running entity of Capital Normal University to carry out adult higher diploma education and all kinds of non diploma continuing education at all levels. It is fully responsible for the standardized management and sustainable development of Capital Normal University's continuing education. The development of school continuing education pays attention to the use of the comprehensive advantages of the school, adheres to the sharing of educational resources, and gradually forms and improves the management system and personnel training mechanism of combining the macro management of the school of continuing education with the relatively independent running of professional departments. At present, the school has 17 Colleges (departments) that jointly undertake the specific work of adult education and continuing education. It has set up adult colleges, involving 60 majors in many fields, such as literature and history, art, science and engineering, education, law, economic management, etc., with 10431 students in adult higher education.

Under the correct leadership of the University, the Institute of continuing education has always taken serving the capital's basic education and economic and social development as its goal, taking the Capital Normal University's good brand image, excellent teaching team and high-quality academic achievements as its basis, taking the quality of talent cultivation as its core, scientifically planning, coordinating resources and standardizing management, and gradually formed the mode of continuing education based on academic qualifications and taking education as its basis It is a multi-level and multi type continuing education system with the characteristics of teachers' continuing education, the exploration of network distance education and the service of economic, social and cultural development.

Under the care and guidance of higher education administrative departments, with the strong support of leaders at all levels and relevant departments, Capital Normal University has outstanding characteristics in continuing education, and the brand influence of teachers' Continuing Education with school characteristics has gradually expanded. It has successively implemented the national training plan, specialized training for primary and secondary school principals, and training for key teachers and teachers in various disciplines of basic education Training for art teachers, training for western provinces, and advanced professional training for art teachers. In the past five years, the school has undertaken more than 20 demonstration centralized training projects of the Ministry of education's "national training plan" for senior high school mathematics, senior high school geography, junior high school art and junior high school history, and has trained backbone teachers and teachers for nearly 30 provinces and autonomous regions in China At the same time, it has been entrusted by Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Fangshan Education Commission, Fengtai Education Commission and Yanshan Education Commission to run more than 10 training programs for school managers, young and middle-aged leading cadres and managers of off campus education places. It has also undertaken 5 training programs for some aid to Xinjiang, Tibet and other education outside Beijing, benefiting nearly 10000 teachers. The teaching reform project "Research on the integration of teachers' academic and non academic education training mode" sponsored by the college has been supported by the Municipal Education Commission for three consecutive years. It has independently applied for the project of "innovation and practice of the training system for backbone teachers of capital basic education" and won the second prize of the seventh higher education teaching achievement award of Beijing Municipality. It has also applied jointly with Renmin University of China, Peking University and other universities The project of "establishing quality annual report system and promoting the construction of quality assurance system of continuing education in Colleges and universities" won the first prize of the seventh higher education teaching achievement in Beijing.
