Nanjing population management cadre college was founded in 1980, originally under the State Family Planning Commission, and transferred to Jiangsu Province in 2001. The college is characterized by "population science", with management and economics as the leading disciplines, and law, arts, science, engineering and other disciplines. It is based in Jiangsu Province and faces the national enrollment. Since its establishment, it has been valued and supported by governments at all levels and is a key funding unit of the United Nations Population Fund. In the long-term school running practice, the excellent school spirit of "unity, diligence, realism and dedication" has been formed, and all undertakings have made great progress. The college has won the honorary titles of "national advanced unit of spiritual civilization construction", "Jiangsu civilized unit", "Jiangsu advanced collective of college graduates employment" and so on.

The college has the Department of population economics, Department of public administration, Department of social work, Department of information science, Department of business administration, Department of foreign languages, Department of basic disciplines, Department of Continuing Education (Training Department) and Institute of population and health. At present, undergraduate majors include: statistics, human resource management, resource environment and urban-rural planning management, international economy and trade, public utilities management, administration, social work, computer science and technology, information management and information system, business administration, marketing, financial management, English, etc. Specialty: computer application technology, animation design and production, electronic information engineering technology, securities investment and management, economic management, tourism management, labor and social security, secretary, legal affairs, statistical practice, applied English, etc. The undergraduate programs of public affairs management and statistics are the construction points of provincial characteristic programs, while the undergraduate programs of business administration and statistical practice are the provincial characteristic programs. At present, the college has 7000 college students and adult correspondence education covers 15 provinces in China.

The college adheres to the talent training as the center, reforms the talent training mode, improves the teaching quality assurance system, and has a teaching team with rich teaching experience, high academic level and reasonable structure. 39% of the full-time teachers have professional and technical titles above deputy senior high, and 75% of the full-time teachers have master's degree or above. The college has strong scientific research strength in characteristic disciplines and related fields. Since its establishment, more than 40 scientific research achievements have won national or provincial awards. In recent years, it has undertaken nearly 50 vertical scientific research projects every year, and has undertaken national scientific research projects for many years. Journal of Nanjing population management cadre college is a source journal of CSSCI extended edition and a first-class Journal of Social Sciences in Jiangsu Province. The college has always been a national training base for senior population and family planning administrators, and also a training base for senior world population officials designated by the United Nations. With active international academic exchanges, the college has established long-term cooperative relations with relevant universities, academic institutions and international organizations in the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Thailand and other countries and regions.

The college has two campuses. The school headquarters is located in suojin village, on the Bank of Xuanwu Lake and at the foot of Zijin Mountain in the east of Nanjing city. The sub campus is located in cangbomen, the eastern suburb of Nanjing, with Zhongshan Scenic Area in the north. The two campuses are equipped with supporting facilities for students' study and life. The library has rich collection resources. The campus network and English teaching audio transmission signal cover the whole college. The dormitory is equipped with TV and telephone.
