Wuhan University of science and technology is a local High-level University jointly built by the people's Government of Hubei Province, the Ministry of education and six national super large enterprises. It is one of the universities selected for the national "basic capacity building project of universities in central and Western China". The school's history can be traced back to the technology school established in 1898 with the approval of the Qing government by Zhang Zhidong, governor of Huguang in the late Qing Dynasty. It is one of the oldest universities in Hubei Province.

The total area of the campus is 1.7093 million square meters, and the building area of the campus is 1.0415 million square meters.
