Several vessels sank in Aberdeen South typhoon shelter fire

China News Agency, Hong Kong, June 27 (Xinhua) a fire broke out on the sea surface of Aberdeen South typhoon shelter in the early hours of June 27. It was upgraded to level 3 two hours later and was put out at 8:40 am. Firefighters said the fire caused several ships to sink and one person was taken to hospital for treatment.

In the early morning of June 27, a yacht fire broke out in Aberdeen South typhoon shelter between Hong Kong Island and Ap Lei Chau. The Hong Kong Fire Services Department dispatched 41 fire fighting and ambulance vehicles, 7 fire boats, 215 fire fighting and ambulance personnel, 11 fire boats and water cannons to fight the fire. The fire was put out at 8:40 am. At least 30 yachts and other vessels were affected by the fire, some of them sank, 35 people were evacuated, and one was not suitable for hospital. According to the Information Services Department of the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, a fire broke out at 2:34 a.m. on that day, and 16 vessels were on fire, which was upgraded to level 3 at 4:44 a.m. There was a lot of smoke at the scene. Although the data from the air monitoring station of the Southern District of Hong Kong Island was not abnormal for the time being, the residents of Hong Kong Island, especially the Southern District of Hong Kong Island, were still affected by the smoke and peculiar smell drifting with the wind.

A total of 11 water cannons, 8 fire hose reels and 4 smoke cap teams were used by firefighters. The fire was put out at about 8.40 am. One person in the fire was ill and sent to Ruttonjee hospital for treatment.
