Ningbo Vocational and technical college was officially approved by the Ministry of education in 1999. It is a full-time comprehensive college engaged in Higher Vocational and technical education. It is one of the first batch of national model higher vocational colleges.

The college is located in Ningbo Economic and Technological Development Zone, adjacent to Beilun port, covering an area of nearly 50 hectares, with a building area of more than 200000 square meters. The college has 10 departments (colleges), 1 education group, 10 categories and 43 majors, and covers majors closely related to local industries, such as mechanical and electrical, mold, computer, electronic information, biochemistry, logistics, etc. There are more than 8000 full-time vocational college students, 16000 part-time students and various training personnel.

He Xiantu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the dean of the college. Zhu Gaofeng, academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering, Liu Shenggang, famous educator, Professor Pan Maoyuan, and Yang Jin, former Tusi Zhang of the Vocational Education Department of the Ministry of education, are the senior consultants of the College.

Based on the advanced school running concepts at home and abroad, the college explores a new way of higher vocational education with characteristics. It is committed to cultivating high-level applied technical talents and high skilled talents with necessary theoretical knowledge and strong practical ability in production, construction, management and service. The college adheres to the quality as the core, ability as the basis, and takes the road of combining production, teaching and research. Adhering to the service-oriented and employment oriented higher vocational education policy, we have actively explored such education modes as "alternation of study and work", "project-based teaching" and "order based training", and cultivated a large number of qualified practical talents for the society. The employment rate of previous graduates has reached 99%, and the satisfaction rate of enterprise evaluation has reached more than 90%.

The College strives for survival by quality, guarantees by service, seeks development by characteristics, and is committed to serving the society and students. Over the past few years, the school running mode and effectiveness have been affirmed by the Ministry of education and the employing units. With the approval of Zhejiang Provincial Department of education, Zhejiang Dagang vocational education group was set up under the leadership of the college to actively carry out the collectivization operation of secondary and higher vocational education in Zhejiang Province, and actively explore the road of cooperation between eastern and Western Vocational Education in response to the call of the Ministry of Education.

At present, the college is the vice president unit of the National Model Higher Vocational College cooperation committee, the vice president unit of the China Higher Education Industry University Research Cooperation Education Association, the vice president unit of the National Higher Vocational Education Research Association, the Secretariat of the national higher vocational college president joint conference and the entrusted undertaking unit of China higher vocational education network. The college is also the teacher training base of modern educational technology in higher vocational colleges, the first experimental base of Higher Vocational Colleges in the cooperative education of production, teaching and research, the numerical control technology training base of the Ministry of education, the demonstrative modern manufacturing technology training base of Zhejiang Province, the national maintenance electrician Vocational skill appraisal institute, etc. it is also the main examination school of Japanese self-taught examination (junior college) in Zhejiang Province. In 2005, it was rated as the advanced unit of national vocational education and was commended at the national vocational education conference held by the State Council. In 2006, the school enterprise cooperation education mode with Ningbo Haitian Group was selected as the "top ten cases of talent cultivation in cooperation between Chinese universities and large enterprises", which is the only selected case in higher vocational colleges.

The school running mode of "three in one, three party linkage" is praised as "Ningbo Beilun mode of China's modern higher vocational education" by the experts of the Ministry of education and Guangming Daily. In 2009, the college and Haitian Group, the chairman of China Plastics Machinery Association, jointly declared the "three in one" open platform for teaching, education and employment, and the exploration and practice of cultivating high skilled electromechanical talents "and won the first prize of the sixth national teaching achievement award of higher education.
