Shanxi coal vocational and technical college is an independent full-time ordinary higher vocational college approved by the people's Government of Shanxi Province. It is located in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province.

The predecessor of the college is Shanxi mining school, which was founded in 1952. Since 2000, the college has been trying to run a higher vocational major. In January 2003, it was upgraded to a higher vocational and technical college, which is subordinate to the Coal Industry Bureau of Shanxi Province and is under the leadership of the Education Department of Shanxi Province.

The college covers an area of 473000 square meters and a building area of 155000 square meters. There are 20 majors in coal mining technology, mine ventilation and safety, mine electromechanical, mine surveying, coal deep processing and utilization, with 6997 students and 94 correspondence students of adult education. At present, there are 466 full-time and part-time teachers and 160 part-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 81 professors and associate professors, 103 with master's degree, and 48 with doctor's degree and master's degree. The total value of teaching instruments and equipment is 38.48 million yuan. There are 1 "comprehensive training base of coal mine safety supported by the central finance", 1 provincial mine electromechanical demonstration training base, 9 simulation training workshops and 3 productive training centers, 45 on campus experimental training rooms and 63 off campus training bases. The library has a collection of more than 580000 books. The college is born of coal, relies on coal and is rooted in coal. The college has established a school running mechanism of close cooperation between schools and enterprises.
