Beijing Youth College of Political Science

Beijing Youth College of political science is an ordinary university in Beijing. It is located in Wangjing District of Beijing, adjacent to the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Central Academy of fine arts. It was formally established in September 1986. At the beginning of its establishment, Comrade Deng Xiaoping, the chief designer of reform and opening up, personally inscribed the name of the Institute. Leaders of the party, the state, the Beijing Municipal Party committee and the Beijing municipal government have come to our hospital for inspection, investigation, on-site work and guidance. The general office of the Beijing Municipal Party committee specially issued a document to propose the establishment of the steering committee of the Beijing Youth College for political science. The former deputy secretaries of the Beijing Municipal Party committee, Jin Jian, Wang jialiu and Li Zhijian, successively served as the directors of the first, second and third session of the steering committee of the Beijing Youth College for political science.

The college pays attention to basic construction, key construction and comprehensive construction, and has made great progress. The conditions for running schools are improving day by day, and the level of education, teaching and scientific research is constantly improving. In 1992, the college was awarded the title of "civilized campus" by Beijing in the first batch; the college has also been awarded the titles of "capital civilized unit", "capital greening and beautifying garden unit", "advanced military training school" and so on. It has formed a multi-level and diversified education and teaching system of general higher education, adult education and foreign cooperation in running schools. It has a full-time and part-time teaching team with high comprehensive quality, reasonable personnel structure and strong teaching and research ability.

At present, the college has more than 4000 full-time students (as of the end of February 2008), and nearly 4000 adult higher education students and international students. There are 322 teaching staff, including 217 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 12 with senior titles and 41 with deputy senior titles.

At present, the college has two campuses: Wangjing campus and east campus, with eight departments, one department, one branch and two research institutes, namely, Department of youth education and management, Department of social work, Department of management, Department of secretary, Department of law, Department of art and design, Department of English, Department of computer, teaching department of social science, telver business branch (jointly run by China and Canada), Beijing Youth Research Institute and Beijing University BOE Institute of ethics, etc. Youth work and management major, social work major and secretary major were rated as Beijing Municipal demonstrative major in higher vocational education. Youth work training base and comprehensive training base of secretary professional ability were rated as Beijing Municipal demonstrative training base. College English, English notes and other courses were rated as Beijing Municipal Excellent Courses. Computer application base compiled by teachers of our college Basic training guidance and exercise set and other teaching materials have been rated as excellent teaching materials in Beijing. The scale and efficiency of the College show a vigorous momentum.

The college has increased the strength of scientific research year by year, promoting teaching with scientific research, and has achieved remarkable results. In July 1992 and November 1994, the college, together with the Beijing Municipal Youth League Committee and the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, established the Beijing Youth Research Institute and the Beijing Oriental Moral Research Institute, and established the unique Beijing Youth Education and Development Research Center. Since the eighth five year plan, the college has made remarkable achievements in scientific research. The college has applied for and approved 98 national, Beijing Municipal and Beijing Municipal Education Commission humanities and social sciences research projects, including 5 national projects, 19 Beijing planning projects, 4 Beijing education science projects and 65 Beijing Municipal Education Commission projects. Nearly 60 works and 550 academic papers have been published. Among them, the national level research topics such as "Experimental Research on Chinese excellent traditional moral education in primary and middle schools", "Research on the interaction between Chinese virtue education and community morality", "Research on Deng Xiaoping's view of interests", "Research on the history of the book of changes in the 20th century" are highly valued and praised by the academic circles. The achievements of scientific research, especially in the fields of youth research, Chinese traditional festival culture, youth volunteers, university moral education and Oriental ethics, have attracted the attention of scholars at home and abroad.

Since its establishment, the college has attached great importance to foreign exchange and cooperation, and has carried out cooperation and exchanges with teaching institutions and academic institutions in more than ten countries and regions, such as Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Singapore, New Zealand, etc.

The college attaches great importance to the construction of campus culture, organizes and carries out colorful campus cultural activities, and actively participates in major political activities and celebrations organized by the state and Beijing, such as the "Asian Games", "World University Games", "Olympic Games volunteer activities".

After the establishment of the college, under the leadership of the Beijing Communist Youth League Committee, the college continued to assume the functions of Beijing Communist Youth League school, and carried out various types of league cadre training. In 2003, the college and the Communist Youth League Municipal Committee jointly established the "capital university student new century elite school", which mainly undertakes the educational function of the Communist Youth League organization serving the growth of young people. The college has also jointly established a Beijing volunteer school with the Beijing Municipal Youth League Committee. Since its establishment, Beijing Youth League school has run more than 900 training courses for League cadres and trained more than 70000 League cadres, which has played a positive role in promoting the development of the cause of the Communist Youth League in Beijing.

In recent years, the college has continuously increased the investment in teaching infrastructure, and the investment in education funds has continued to increase. At present, there are 48 kinds of experimental training rooms, which can meet the needs of teaching. According to the needs of teaching and experimental training, each major has established a relatively stable off campus training base. The teaching facilities of each major are basically complete, with an average of 45 teaching computers per 100 students, and 160 seats in multimedia classrooms and voice rooms per 100 students.

The Library covers an area of 2140 square meters, with a collection of 457000 books, including more than 190000 e-books. The library has installed a broadband network to realize the modern management of book acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, retrieval and office work. It has joined the network library system of universities in Beijing and opened the information network of the development research center of the State Council and the full text information database of Chinese academic journals.
