Taiyuan University, formerly known as Taiyuan University founded in 1984, was upgraded to a full-time comprehensive undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of education in April 2013. In September 2014, the foreign language normal college of Taiyuan University and the Education College of Taiyuan University were merged into the University. The college is led by Shanxi Provincial People's government, managed by Taiyuan Municipal People's government, and its business work is under the leadership of Shanxi Provincial Department of education.

The college is located in the center of Taiyuan Education Park, adjacent to Taiyuan Economic and Technological Development Zone, high-tech Development Zone, Jinzhong Industrial Zone, Wusu comprehensive bonded zone and Shanxi science and technology innovation city. It is the intersection and convergence zone of the "one city" construction of Taiyuan and Jinzhong, with prominent regional advantages.

The college has excellent infrastructure and excellent school running conditions. The planning land of the new campus of the college is 1828 mu, and now the total area is 1308 mu, which is composed of the new campus, the old campus, the north campus and the middle campus. The building area of the school is 338500 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is 61.18 million yuan, with a collection of more than 1.21 million books. It has a relatively perfect library management system and network service system, meeting the needs of modern information teaching and office.

The college has 853 full-time teachers.
