The predecessor of Hubei Vocational and technical college is Xiaogan vocational and technical college, which was approved by the Ministry of education in March 1998. It is a new type of University and technical secondary school, which is composed of the original Xiaogan Education College, Xiaogan finance and trade school, Xiaogan health school and Xiaogan mechanical and electrical engineering school. In April 2003, with the approval of Hubei Provincial People's government and the record of the Ministry of education, Xiaogan Polytechnic College was renamed Hubei Polytechnic College. The college covers an area of 1010 mu, with a construction area of 388000 square meters. There are 894 teaching staff and 650 full-time teachers. The total number of students is 10508. The Faculty of the college is strong, and there is a "double qualification" teaching team with high academic level and modern technology (skills). There are 650 professional teachers, including more than 200 professors and associate professors. Nine teachers enjoy special subsidies from the State Council and the provincial government. The college employs more than 100 enterprise leaders, senior technicians, university professors, and heads of economic departments to form a professional management committee. More than 100 well-known experts at home and abroad, academicians of Chinese Academy of engineering and experts are employed as part-time teachers. There are eight departments, including humanities and Arts Department, foreign language department, finance and Economics Department, medical school, nursing department, mechanical and electrical engineering department, computer science and Technology Department, political science and law department, tourism and hotel management department, and a secondary college with 28 majors. It has established an experimental (training) room with a building area of more than 10000 square meters in the school, and established more than 100 practice and training bases outside the school.
