Guangdong Engineering Vocational and technical college is a higher vocational college directly under the Department of education of Guangdong Province. Its predecessor is Guangdong Amateur University of science and technology, which was founded in 1958 and transformed into a higher vocational college in 2005. The school adheres to the school running philosophy of "taking high quality as the soul, taking high-tech skills as the core, taking high-quality employment as the guidance, integrating government, administration, school and enterprise in an all-round way, and serving regional economic and social development in an all-round way", highlights characteristic development, innovative development, and achieves remarkable results. The school (including the planning land of Qingyuan campus) now covers an area of 973.59 mu, with 11567 full-time students and 6970 adult college students. The practice area is 121414 square meters. There are 20 practice bases on campus, 224 off campus training bases (3 training bases supported by central finance and 5 training bases supported by Provincial Finance), and 751200 paper books. There are 625 teaching staff, including 542 full-time teachers and 394 double quality teachers. The school has 9 teaching units including elevator engineering college and architectural engineering college, and 41 specialties. Among them, electrical engineering and its automation, accounting, electronic information engineering technology, electrical automation technology and numerical control technology have been approved by the Department of education as higher vocational, undergraduate convergence, collaborative education application-oriented undergraduate talent training major. At present, the college focuses on building and forming a number of provincial specialty and demonstration construction specialty, such as elevator engineering technology, construction engineering technology, etc.

The university is the only pilot University for the reform of legal institutions in Guangdong Province, the provincial demonstrative construction vocational college, the modern apprenticeship pilot University of the Ministry of education, the pilot vocational college for the cultivation of application-oriented talents, the innovation and entrepreneurship education demonstration school for college students in Guangdong Province, and the demonstration point for the cultivation and practice of socialist core values in Guangdong Province. It has won the title of "national graduate employment work" of the Ministry of education "Typical experience university", "civilized unit of Guangdong Province" and other honorary titles. The school has comprehensively strengthened moral education, grass-roots party building and ideological and political work, and established the first Marxist College of Higher Vocational Colleges in the province.
