Gansu communications vocational and technical college is the only higher vocational college in Gansu Province, which is approved by the people's Government of Gansu Province and registered by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China. Its predecessor is Gansu Communications school, which was established in 1956. In April 2003, Gansu Communications school and Gansu communications cadre school merged to establish Gansu communications vocational and technical college. In April 2009, it was transferred from Gansu Provincial Department of transportation to Gansu Provincial Department of education.

The college has been awarded the titles of "training base for skilled talents in short supply", "continuing education base for professional and technical personnel in Gansu Province", "provincial civilized unit" and "pacesetter of provincial civilized unit" by relevant departments at higher levels. The major of road and bridge engineering technology and computer network technology are identified as provincial characteristic majors, and the teaching team of road and bridge engineering technology and automobile application technology are identified as provincial teaching team; Four courses, including highway survey and design, road engineering drawing, automobile marketing, Mao Zedong Thought and introduction to the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, were rated as provincial excellent courses.

The college is divided into Anning campus and Yantan campus, covering an area of 258 mu, with a construction area of 120000 square meters and fixed assets of 220 million yuan. There are five experimental centers and nearly 50 training rooms. The library has 540000 books, CNKI Chinese journal full text database, Apabi e-book database, etc. At present, the college has 246 in-service staff, of which 62.3% are "double qualification" teachers, 30% are senior professional titles, and 32% are graduates or above. There are more than 6000 full-time students and more than 1600 adult correspondence students. It has four departments, two departments and one center, including highway and Bridge Department, automobile and building machinery engineering department, management engineering department, information engineering department, basic teaching department (ideological and political education and Research Department) and continuing education center. It has opened 29 professional directions, including road and bridge engineering technology, automobile application technology, logistics management and computer application technology. On the basis of running a full-time school, the college offers multi-level adult correspondence education and on-the-job training. The continuing education center undertakes more than 8000 person times of adult education and all kinds of training every year. It also has the 24th National Vocational Skill Appraisal Institute and the technical ability appraisal station for special types of work, with a total of 9 appraisal types of work, and trains more than 3000 person times of all kinds of personnel at all levels every year. The college has Lanzhou Lutong Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd., Gansu Huitong highway engineering test and detection center, Gansu Xintong Technology Co., Ltd., which carries out highway engineering and information engineering design, construction, supervision, test and detection, complements with teaching work, promotes the combination of production, learning and research, and provides students with a broad training place and employment platform.

In January 2011, Gansu Provincial Department of transportation and transportation and Gansu Provincial Department of education signed an agreement between the two departments to jointly build Gansu communications vocational and technical college, creating a precedent for higher vocational colleges to be jointly built by education administrative departments and industry departments in our province, laying a solid foundation for the construction and development of the college and providing employment security. The college adheres to the guiding ideology of "employment oriented", strives to open up employment channels for students, and establishes a student employment security system. The college has established a stable practice and training base in more than 60 enterprises and institutions inside and outside the province, and signed the employment cooperation intention. In the process of personnel training, the college actively implements the "multi certificate" system, so that the double certificate rate of graduates has been maintained at more than 90% in recent years. At the same time, every year, some students in our college enter undergraduate colleges and universities to further their studies through taking part in the college to university examination, and the number and results are in the forefront of similar colleges and universities.
