The predecessor of Ningde Teachers' college is Fu'an teachers' College, which was founded in 1958 and stopped in 1962. In the autumn of 1975, Ningde normal school set up a junior college class. On December 28, 1978, Ningde Teachers College was officially established with the approval of the State Council. In August 1990, Mindong Vocational University was merged into Ningde Teachers College. In March 1994, the school officially changed its name to Ningde Teachers College. The school has won the commendation and award of "training qualified teachers for basic education, clear direction and remarkable achievements" awarded by the State Education Commission. It has been twice rated as "advanced unit of social practice" by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the State Education Commission and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League. It has been rated as "civilized unit" at the provincial level for five consecutive times, and "advanced unit of national greening" by the central Greening Committee. Since its establishment, the university has trained more than 19000 graduates.
In recent years, centering on the goal of building Ningde University, the university has constantly updated its school running concept, deepened the reform of education and teaching, strengthened the construction of infrastructure, disciplines and teaching staff, and significantly improved its school running conditions and teaching quality, initially reaching the basic conditions of running an undergraduate college.
The University adheres to the guidance of serving local economic and social development and adjusts and optimizes the structure of disciplines and specialties according to social needs. Since 2000, it has set up 14 application-oriented specialties urgently needed by local economic and social development, basically forming a discipline and specialty system based on normal education and with science, engineering, literature and management as the backbone. Journal of Ningde Teachers College (PHILOSOPHY AND SOCIAL SCIENCE EDITION) and Journal of Ningde Teachers College (NATURAL SCIENCE EDITION) were respectively rated as the first national excellent journal of social science and natural science. The school focuses on selecting topics from the production practice of characteristic industries in Ningde, and presides over or participates in more than 20 national, provincial and municipal scientific research projects directly serving the industrial and agricultural production in Ningde, including edible fungus cultivation, betel nut taro regeneration plant, strawberry rapid propagation, octopus artificial breeding, bamboo shoot food preservation and processing, formation and prevention of acid rain, environmental monitoring, and hydrophilic tourism planning in Northeast Fujian The research on the compilation of tour guide words plays an important role in serving the local economy.
