Changsha University of science and technology is a multi-disciplinary university with engineering as the main body, coordinated development of engineering, science, management, economics, arts, law, arts and other disciplines, undergraduate education as the main body, postdoctoral research mobile station, the right to confer doctoral degree and the right to promote master's degree. The school is an advanced grass-roots party organization in China, a civilized model unit in Hunan Province, and a model school for running the school according to law in Hunan Province. After nearly 60 years of construction and development, the school has accumulated Changli culture with the motto of "erudition, practice, integrity and innovation" and the core of "paving stone spirit". Since its establishment, the university has trained nearly 200000 senior professionals for transportation, electric power, water conservancy, light industry and other industries as well as regional economic and social development. The first batch of undergraduate enrollment covers the whole country, and the employment rate of graduates has remained above 95% for many years.

The university is the national "Midwest university basic ability construction project" University. At present, there are two campuses, jinpenling and Yuntang, covering an area of 3112 mu, with a total construction area of 1.151 million square meters. The total value of fixed assets is 3.380 billion yuan, of which the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 474 million yuan. The library has 3.218 million paper books, 766000 e-books and 1951 kinds of Chinese and foreign periodicals. It has established the Sci-tech Novelty Retrieval workstation of the Ministry of education and the electric power sci-tech novelty retrieval workstation of the Chinese society of electrical engineering. There are 213700 square meters of sports venues, including 34500 square meters of indoor stadiums.

The University adheres to the development strategy of "strengthening the university with talents". There are 1931 full-time teachers, including 310 full-time professors, 682 associate professors and 700 teachers with doctoral degrees. The school has 17 teaching colleges, 1 independent college and 1 continuing education college. It is a cadre training base for the air force of the Chinese people's Liberation Army. At present, there are more than 30000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 5000 doctoral and postgraduate students.

Closely relying on the industry, the university has built a higher level and distinctive undergraduate education and teaching system. At present, there are 61 undergraduate majors, including 9 national characteristic majors, 1 National Undergraduate Talent Training Mode Innovation Experimental Zone (Civil Engineering Major), 1 national professional comprehensive reform pilot major (Accounting Major), 7 majors that have passed the national engineering education professional certification, 8 undergraduate majors listed in the "excellent engineer education and training plan" of the Ministry of education, and 8 Chinese and foreign majors approved by the Ministry of education One undergraduate education project of cooperative education. At present, the university has three post doctoral research mobile stations, three first-class discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 15 second-class discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 20 first-class discipline master degree authorization points, 105 second-class discipline master degree authorization points, and 8 master professional degree authorization points, with the qualification of granting master's degree with the same academic level. The project of "complete set of technology for highway construction in expansive land area" presided over by the school won the first prize of national science and Technology Progress Award in 2009; The projects of "key technology of safety control during construction and service period of concrete bridge", "evaluation method and application of service performance and remaining life of concrete bridge" and "asphalt pavement state design method and structural performance improvement technology and engineering application" won the second prize of national science and Technology Progress Award in 2006, 2011 and 2012 respectively. Since the 12th Five Year Plan, the university has presided over 352 national level projects, achieved a historic breakthrough in the national key basic research and development program (973 Program), and won high-end projects such as the national science and technology support program, the National 863 program, the major projects of the National Social Science Foundation of China, and the national fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; Seven national science and technology achievement awards were obtained, including two presided over; 248 service invention patents; and nearly 1.1 billion yuan was spent on scientific research.

The University adheres to the principle of open education and carries out extensive international cooperation and exchanges. It has established communication and cooperation relations with 68 institutions of higher learning and scientific research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Russia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
