The Council of the university students' Association of Hong Kong "mourned" the mob who attacked the police and aroused public anger. On July 13, the University of Hong Kong issued a statement strongly condemning the conduct of the student union and announcing that it would no longer recognize the role of the student union in the University.
Earlier on the 13th, the chief executive of Hong Kong, Mrs Carrie Lam, also accused the Council of Hong Kong University Students of "heinous" behavior and expressed support for the university authorities and even the police to follow up the matter.
According to RTHK, HKU said in a statement that it strongly accused the Council of university students of openly beautifying the serious misconduct of violence, described it as challenging the moral bottom line of society and damaging the reputation and interests of the whole HKU community.
The statement said that the existing role of the student union of the University of Hong Kong as an independent registered society will no longer be recognized. At the same time, the Student Union Council incident will be seriously investigated according to university procedures, and the students involved will be further dealt with according to the investigation results. The school will set up a special team to coordinate and deal with all kinds of affairs of students, so as to ensure that the normal activities of students will not be affected.
HKU calls on students to return to rationality, uphold correct values, devote themselves to their studies and make contributions to the society.
Earlier this month, police officers committed suicide after a terrorist attack in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. On July 7, the Council of the university students' Association of Hong Kong passed a "motion" to "mourn" the suspect of the stabbing police case, Liang Jianhui, and even said that "I appreciate his sacrifice for Hong Kong".
The actions and remarks were immediately denounced by the HKU, the Security Bureau and the Education Bureau. Li Guozhang, a member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong and chairman of the Council of the University of Hong Kong, said in an interview with Hong Kong media on the 8th that the school authorities had invited the National Security Department of the police to investigate whether the Student Union Council had violated the national security law of Hong Kong, and the school authorities would examine whether the student union members involved would be expelled.
Amid unanimous criticism from the outside world, the HKU had to hold a press conference on the early morning of the 9th to bow and apologize, claiming to be aware of the seriousness of the incident and withdraw the "mourning" motion. All the members of the Council and the Council resigned and promised to be cautious in their words and deeds in the future.

Mrs Lam: support HKU or police to follow up
According to Da Gong Hui Quan media reports, on the morning of July 13, before attending the Executive Council, the chief executive of Hong Kong, Mrs Carrie Lam, told the media that the Council of the university students' Association of Hong Kong had unanimously adopted a statement on the cold-blooded attack on the police, that mourning for the mob was a "sacrifice" for Hong Kong, and that she even wanted to pay homage to him.
Mrs Lam said that whether she was the chief executive, the supervisor of HKU, or an ordinary citizen, she was very angry about this. She was ashamed that so many students of HKU had done so.
As for the student council's withdrawal of the statement and apology, she believes that the school should continue to take action, and the way to follow up will be handed over to the school for decision; If law enforcement is involved, if the police feel there is room for follow-up, she also agrees to be followed up by law enforcement agencies. However, she will not intervene in the follow-up by law enforcement agencies or school management.
In recent years, the university students' Association of Hong Kong has degenerated into an organization that opposes China's rebellion against Hong Kong. It frequently advocates "Hong Kong Independence" and "self-determination" and makes the university a mess. The University of Hong Kong issued a statement on April 30, accusing the student union of using the campus as a platform for political propaganda to make public inflammatory and potentially illegal remarks, thus damaging the overall interests and reputation of the University.
At that time, HKU announced a series of sanctions, including no longer collecting membership fees on behalf of the student union; No longer provide financial management services for the student union; Take back the management right of the student union site and other facilities.
