[source] it is the leaf of Ziziphus jujuba. The plant morphology can be seen in the article "Suanzaoren".

[chemical constituents] it contains rutin, berberine, protoopioid, wax alcohol, vitamin C, malic acid and tartaric acid.

[pharmacological action] the leaves of Zizyphus jujuba have anesthetic effect. If one or two leaves are chewed, the feeling of sweetness and bitterness will disappear for 5-10 minutes. The effect of intravenous injection of atropine was not affected by the decrease of heart rate. 10% solution of 1:10 and 1:20 could slow down the heart rate and strengthen the contractile force of isolated frog heart. 10-20% solution could make the isolated frog hind limb blood vessels constrict, while the isolated rabbit ear expanded. But repeated perfusion of rabbit ear blood vessels could also cause contraction.
