[plant morphology] Jiuniuzao

Perennial herbs, 30-50 cm high, with white pulp juice. The taproot is stout, conical, fleshy, yellowish brown, with several lateral roots. Stem erect, upper part branched, glabrous. Leaves alternate, oblong oblanceolate, 3-5 cm long, 1-1.6 cm wide, entire. The cup-shaped cyme is terminal or axillary, with 3-5 radial peduncles, a leaflike involucre at the base, and each peduncle is further divided into two small peduncles; the flower is small, yellow green, with male and female flowers in the simple involucre, the male flower is composed of a single stamen and a stalk, the female flower is single in the center of the involucre, protruding, and consists of a 3-locular ovary, with one ovule in each locule. It grows under the mountain forest or in the grass at the edge of the forest. It is distributed in Shaanxi, Henan, Hubei, Sichuan and other places.

Functions and indications: defecate, promote diuresis, eliminate accumulation, break blood stasis and relieve pain.
