They live in mountain streams, caves with flowing water and places where rivers have springs. The food is mainly diatom and aquatic insect larvae. The oviposition period is from March to April. It is distributed in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, Minjiang River and the middle and upper reaches of Xijiang River.
