Annual herb, 10-80 cm high. Stem oblique, base branched, slightly ribbed, glabrous, light green to dark purple. Utricles globose or broadly ovoid, slightly flat, subsmooth or slightly rugose, not dehiscent. The flowering period is from June to July.

Born in the field, roadside, village. It is distributed in the north and south of China.

This species is very similar to Amaranthus Amaranthus, but the fruit of this species does not crack, and the fruit of this species is usually ring transverse crack.
