Herbs perennial aquatic, stoloniferous; stems slender, suberect, ca. 1 mm in diam. Floating leaves slightly leathery, lanceolate or lanceolate ovate, 4-13 cm long, 2-3 cm wide, entire, apex obtuse or sharp, base nearly round; petiole 6-11 cm long; stipules sharp, 2-5 cm long. Spikes 2-5 cm long, attached to 3.5-8.5 cm long stems; perianth 4 pieces, green, tweezers arranged; stamens 4, sessile, anthers cracking outward; pistils 4, sessile, separated, 1-locular. Small drupe obliquely obovate, 3.5 mm long, 2.5 mm wide, slightly flat on the side, semilunar on the back, suborbicular ventrally, with 3 keel ridges, apex nearly flat, not beaked. The flowering period is from June to July.

Born in still water. It is distributed all over China.

All parts of the plant are smaller than those of the previous species. The leaves submerged in water are linear, 6 cm long; the leaves floating on water are elliptic or lanceolate, 1.5-3 cm long and 4-10 mm wide. The flower stem is 1 cm long, the spike is 0.5-1 cm long, the fruit is 1.5 mm long, the keel ridge on the back is chicken shaped, and the style part on the top is star beaked. The flowering period is from May to June.

It is distributed in Northeast China, East China and the Yangtze River Basin.
